Position Summary The Director of Nursing is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating the overall operation of the Nursing Department in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Althea Woodland’s policies and procedures. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, resident-centered nursing care while promoting clinical excellence, staff development, and regulatory compliance. Primary Responsibilities Provide leadership and oversight for all nursing services, including RNs, LPNs, and CNAs Ensure compliance with CMS, COMAR, and Maryland Department of Health regulations Maintain survey readiness and support sustained quality outcomes and performance measures Oversee staffing, scheduling, competencies, and clinical education to support safe and effective care delivery Collaborate with the Administrator, Medical Director, and interdisciplinary team to ensure coordinated, resident-focused care Participate in QAPI initiatives and performance improvement activities Ensure accurate clinical documentation, medication management, infection prevention, and risk management practices Communicate effectively with residents and families, addressing clinical concerns with professionalism and transparency Support admissions, discharges, and transitions of care in collaboration with therapy and social services Qualifications Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Maryland (required) Minimum three (3) years of nursing leadership experience in a skilled nursing facility, including DON, ADON, or Unit Manager roles Strong knowledge of CMS regulations, survey process, and quality metrics Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and clinical decision-making skills Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal abilities Commitment to high standards of care, accountability, and professional integrity Benefits & Perks Comprehensive offering of medical, dental, and vision insurance (individual and family coverage) 401(k) program Paid holidays and paid time off Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) Tuition reimbursement and ongoing professional development Company-paid life insurance Employee referral bonuses (up to $5,000 for licensed staff) A professional, team-oriented environment where leadership is valued and supported
