IREN’s platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and power in renewable-rich regions across North America, Europe and APAC.\r\nWith 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high-performance compute. We believe that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way: responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in.\r\nPlatform Engineering builds what the rest of IREN builds on. We own data engineering, automation, developer tooling, AI enablement, and product engineering, the systems that turn a fleet of data centers and GPU clusters into a platform our customers and our own teams can move quickly on. Much of it is being built now, for the first time, so there is no legacy stack to maintain and no established playbook to follow.\r\nWe are hiring senior software engineers across Platform Engineering. This is an individual contributor role. Seniority here is measured by the scope of what you own and by how much better the engineers around you get, not by how many people report to you. At this level you own the design of whole systems, including the parts that cross team boundaries and the parts you will not build yourself.\r\nThe part of the role we weight most heavily is what you do for the engineers around you. We expect you to raise the standard of the people you work with, through design review and code review that teach rather than correct, through pairing, and through handing hard problems to engineers who are ready to stretch. We look for evidence of this during the interview, and we continue to assess it after you join.\r\nBecause Platform Engineering builds for other teams, the boundaries matter as much as the internals. You will own the interfaces between your systems and everyone else's, negotiate what those contracts guarantee, and manage versioning and compatibility when something has to change. That work is as much communication as design, so we expect you to write clearly and to be comfortable in a room where people disagree. We also expect depth: senior engineers here are the person the company asks about a particular domain, whether that is data engineering, automation, developer tooling, AI enablement, or product engineering. Engineers at every level at IREN stay hands on, senior ones included.\r\n6 or more years of professional software engineering experience, including several years operating in production what you built.\r\nA record of owning system level design rather than components alone. You have been the person accountable for how a whole system fits together.\r\nDeep experience with distributed systems, including failure modes you have personally debugged rather than only read about.\r\nDemonstrated coaching. Be ready to name engineers who grew because of how you worked with them, and to say what actually changed.\r\nExperience owning APIs that other teams depend on, including versioning and breaking change migrations.\r\nExcellent communication, particularly in writing. You can write a design document another team can act on without a meeting.\r\nDepth in at least one domain relevant to this team: data engineering, automation, developer tooling, AI enablement, or product engineering.\r\nExperience leading delivery across more than one team, without formal authority over the people involved.\r\nStrong fundamentals, and the judgement to recognize when the simple answer is the right one.\r\nNice to have:Experience as a formal tech lead, or in a staff level role.\r\nExperience with cloud infrastructure, containers, and infrastructure as code (AWS, Azure, or GCP; Kubernetes; Terraform).\r\nExperience with high volume data pipelines, streaming systems, or telemetry and time series data.\r\nExperience putting machine learning or LLM systems into production.\r\nExperience working close to physical infrastructure, where the software must account for hardware that fails.\r\nOwn system design from end to end: the problem statement, architecture, interfaces, data model, and rollout, including the parts other engineers will build.\r\nCoach and develop the engineers around you. Give review that teaches, pair on hard problems, and hand over work that stretches people rather than keeping it because you would finish it faster.\r\nOwn the API contracts between your systems and other teams: negotiate what they guarantee, version them, and manage the migration when they change.\r\nSet technical direction for your area, and write it down so other teams can build against it without needing a meeting first.\r\nBreak large, ambiguous problems into work that a team can sequence, estimate, and deliver.\r\nLead delivery across team boundaries, including the coordination and follow up that this actually requires.\r\nStay hands on. Write and review code, and carry the pager for what you own.\r\nOwn operations for your systems: monitoring, on-call, incident response, and the follow up that stops the same incident recurring.\r\nBe the person the company can ask about your domain, and make what you know available to others rather than holding it.\r\nRaise the standard through the systems around the code: CI/CD, observability, testing practice, and documentation.\r\nAt IREN, we offer a highly competitive compensation package that includes base salary, annual performance incentives, and opportunities to build long-term wealth through equity programs. These offerings are part of our broader Total Rewards package, thoughtfully designed to support your health, well-being, and long-term success.\r\nCompensationThe expected base salary for this role USD $152,000 – $228,000/annum.Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and market data for the region.Total Compensation package may be inclusive of annual incentive bonus, equity (long-term incentive).\r\nRelocation or Living-out-allowance / per diem (as appliable and based on successful candidate circumstances)\r\nHealth & Wellness100% company paid health insurance premiums (medical, dental, and vision) for employees, 75% company paid coverage for dependents\r\nCompany-paid short-term and long-term disability insurance\r\nVoluntary life, critical illness, and accident coverage available\r\nHealth Savings Accounts (HSA) – when combined with the High Deductible Health Plan\r\nEmployee Assistance Program and wellness resources\r\nRetirement & Financial Wealth401(k) retirement plan with company match\r\nAccess to financial planning and legal services\r\nTime Off & Leave ProgramsPaid Time Off (PTO) and paid holidays\r\nGrowth & DevelopmentInternal skills training and advancement pathways\r\nProfessional development to support certifications, continuing education, or role related training\r\nCommunity & CultureCompany events and team-building activities\r\nWe value diverse perspectives and believe that skills can be developed.
