POSITION TITLE: Senior Development AccountantFLSA STATUS: Exempt/ TemporaryThis is a hybrid position, working two days a week in Long Beach, California. It is a temporary position projected to be through November 2026.Hiring range: $84,139 to $98,987Note: The pay range is included in this posting to provide transparency and to reflect the potential for future compensation growth within the organization. New hires are placed within the hiring range based on their qualifications, experience, and alignment with the internal equity of existing staff members. Exceptions are considered only in rare cases where a candidate possesses highly specialized skills or expertise that are difficult to find in the market and are directly aligned with the position description.Benefits Include: Medical/ Dental/ Vision; 401(k) with match; life insurance; long term disability coverage; medical and dependent care FSA.Position SummaryThe Senior Development Accountant reports directly to the Development Accountant Manager. This position works closely with the Housing Development department and is responsible for the financial review and oversight of the budgets and reporting for construction and development of properties. This position supervises Development Staff Accountants and is the back-up to the Development Accountant Manager.Essential FunctionsSupervises and directs development accountants as assigned. Provides training, manages monthly/quarterly reporting, manages workflow of team, and engages in performance discussions.Coordinates with the development accountants on the pre-development and construction phases through stabilization.Reviews all draw packages for completeness, monitors submission of draw packages to lenderReviews financials comparing actual to budget and partners with Project Managers to keep projects in line with their budgetPrepares Yardi generated job cost reports that tie out to trial balance reports and draw summary reportReviews bank reconciliations prepared by the development staff accountants; and prepares bank reconciliations for assigned projects in constructionOversees the validation of ACH/wire instructionsEnsures project trial balances are reconciled, complete, and ready for the year-end audits/compilations, and cost certificationWorks with the Accounting management team to develop policies and proceduresApproves development construction payments: ACH Wires and Positive PayPerforms additional Ad Hoc Projects as assigned by the Development Accountant Manager and the Accounting Management teamKnowledge OfKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESDevelopment and job cost practices and impact on General LedgerPreparation of Draw packagesContract Management in Yardi a plusYardi Voyager 7S or major systems experienceAccepted methodologies for budgeting and cash forecastingDemonstrates proficiency in Microsoft: Excel and WordSkill LevelStrong leadership skills; manage team of 4 or moreStrong analytical skills dealing with financial data and budgetsSuperior writing and communication skillsProficient in the use of personal computers and related software applicationsStrong attention to detailAbility ToAnalyze and monitor budgetsProvide feedback to Project Managers on development project financial statusSet priorities in a fast-paced environmentAffordable Housing experience a plusEducation And Experience RequirementsA combination of education and related experience may substitute for education requirements.BA in Finance or Accounting, or related field and5 years’ experience in real estate development accounting or related field, demonstrating solid understanding of job costs, real estate accounting principles, and financial statement preparationPHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
