Experimental Cnc MachinistAs an Experimental CNC Machinist, you will support the production and development of precision components used in advanced space systems. You will set up and operate computer numerical control (CNC) machines to fabricate, modify, and inspect parts to exact specifications. This role supports experimental and developmental work, often requiring careful problem-solving, precision, and collaboration with Manufacturing Engineers. Your work directly contributes to the reliability and performance of next-generation space technologies.Key Duties / ResponsibilitiesMachine, fabricate, and assemble parts according to drawings and operation sheet specificationsInterpret computer-aided design (CAD) data, prints, and sketchesSet up and operate one or more CNC machining centers (horizontal and vertical)Perform drilling, milling, boring, tapping, and related machining operationsVerify numerical control (NC) code during setup and executionSelect and install appropriate cutting tools and complete machine zeroing and setup adjustmentsPerform secondary operations such as deburring and straightening during machine cyclesInspect parts during and after production using standard measurement tools, including micrometers, indicators, calipers, and depth gaugesMaintain coolant levels and perform minor preventive maintenance on equipmentProvide feedback to Manufacturing Engineers on processes, tooling, and fixturing to improve efficiencyReview machining results against performance targets and communicate production goals during shiftTroubleshoot machining challenges, including work-holding, material behavior, tooling, and machine settingsSupport statistical or other quality control procedures as requiredWork EnvironmentThis position is based in King of Prussia, PA within Lockheed Martin Space Production Operations. You will work in a precision machining and developmental laboratory environment where accuracy and attention to detail are critical. The role requires operating CNC equipment and using precision measurement tools. The pace is production-driven, with collaboration between machinists and engineering teams to refine processes and meet schedule targets.
