You will own coating process performance across development and production, lead equipment and process qualifications, and drive continuous improvement in yield, reliability, and optical performance in a fast‑paced, high‑tech manufacturing environment.\n\nKey Responsibilities\nTechnical & Process Responsibilities\n\nDevelop a deep understanding of optical thin‑film requirements, including reflectivity, transmission, uniformity, stress, adhesion, and cosmetic performance.\n\nDevelop, optimize, and sustain optical coating processes using physical vapor deposition (PVD) techniques such as electron beam evaporation, sputtering, and ion‑assisted deposition.\n\nOwn process recipes, control parameters, and process windows to ensure stable and repeatable coating performance.\n\nTroubleshoot coating‑related issues including optical performance shifts, defects, adhesion failures, and cosmetic non‑conformances.\n\nAnalyze process, metrology, and test data to identify trends, reduce variation, and improve yield and throughput.\n\nSupport day‑to‑day production needs, including process certification, escalations, technician training & certification, and root cause investigations.\n\nDrive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance coating performance, productivity, and equipment utilization.\n\nDocumentation & Compliance\n\nGenerate high‑quality technical documentation including engineering test plans, qualification reports, work instructions, and process specifications.\n\nMaintain coating process documentation, OCAPs, and change control records.\n\nApply structured problem‑solving methodologies (e.g., FMEA, 8D, DMAIC) to improve process robustness.\n\nCollaborate with EHS and operations teams to ensure safe operation of coating systems and compliance with environmental and safety requirements.\n\nEquipment & Project Management\n\nLead coating equipment projects from concept through vendor engagement, specification, FAT/SAT, installation, and internal qualification.\n\nSupport equipment troubleshooting, maintenance planning, and process capability improvements in collaboration with equipment engineering.\n\nSupport new product introduction (NPI) through coating process development, qualification, and release to production.\n\nParticipate in capital planning, equipment road‑mapping, and technology upgrades.\n\nCollaboration & Cross‑Functional Support\n\nCollaborate closely with production, inspection, cleaning, equipment engineering, and design teams to ensure end‑to‑end process success.\n\nSupport KPI tracking and data‑driven decision making related to yield, quality, and availability.\n\nCommunicate clearly during escalations and lead cross‑functional efforts to resolve coating performance issues.\n\nEducation & Experience\n\nMaster’s degree with 1+ years of relevant experience, or Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of relevant experience in Materials Science, Physics, Optical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields.\n\nExperience in optical thin‑film coating, precision optics, or semiconductor manufacturing strongly preferred.\n\nStrong understanding of thin‑film optics, optical constants, interference coatings, and material properties.\n\nHands‑on experience with PVD coating systems (e‑beam, sputtering, IAD, or similar).\n\nExperience with coating qualification, process transfer, and production support.\n\nExperience using structured problem‑solving frameworks such as FMEA, 4C, A3, or 8D.\n\nFamiliarity with optical metrology techniques (e.g., spectrophotometry, ellipsometry, surface inspection) is a plus.\n\nCompetencies\n\nCommunicate clearly and effectively across engineering, operations, and cross‑functional teams.\n\nAnalyze complex data sets and translate results into actionable process improvements.\n\nWork proactively and adapt quickly in a high‑mix, fast‑paced manufacturing environment.\n\nApply a systematic, detail‑oriented approach to technical problem solving.\n\nManage multiple priorities while maintaining strong ownership and accountability.\n\nFollow procedures rigorously to maintain high‑quality, controlled processes.\n\nContribute ideas that improve yield, stability, and overall manufacturing excellence.\n\nBuild strong working relationships and support a collaborative team culture.\n\nAdditional Skills\n\nProficiency with Python, MATLAB, or similar tools for data analysis, modeling, or automation.\n\nExperience with SPC, JMP, Minitab, or similar statistical analysis tools.\n\nStrong skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).\n\nYou must be work authorized in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship\n\nAdditional Responsibilities:\nThere is potential for exposure to strong magnetic fields, high voltage and currents.\n\nThis position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.).
