Someone ready to take the lead in planning and executing an unforgettable event from beginning to end.Work is part-time, year-round, increasing in frequency leading up to the Daffodil Festival; employee must work the weekend of the festival.Under general supervision, performs responsible administrative and professional work supporting, planning, organizing and coordinating the annual Daffodil Festival and the Festival's ancillary events. Establishes and maintains contact and liaison with the Daffodil Festival Council, sub-committees, volunteers, local businesses, civic organizations, County agencies and other organizations as necessary. Employee must have excellent communication skills and marketing knowledge; serves as ex officio non-voting member of the Daffodil Festival Council. Reports to the Recreation Superintendent and works closely with the Tourism Coordinator and Director of Parks, Recreation & Tourism.Job HighlightsAttends Daffodil Festival Council and sub-committee meetings year-round; provides leadership and guidance related to County policies, budget, and use of County facilities and equipment; reserves facilities and equipment related to festival and ancillary events.Works with sub-committees and individual volunteers responsible for specific aspects of the festival to include the poster contest, souvenirs, sponsors, etc.; assist with radio and television interviews and promotions.Prepares and submits festival budget annually, provides information and updates for weekly and monthly department reports, information for the Beehive, web and print marketing; provides minutes of all meetings to the Recreation Superintendent and Director.Assists with coordination of emergency operations and planning; reviews the event action plan annually and make necessary updates.Works with cooperating agencies and departments such as the Sheriff's Office, Virginia Department of Transportation, Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Association, etc.; completes permit applications; requests additional insurance coverage when necessary; completes other required forms and documents to utilize land, staff and equipment.Researches, explores and attends when possible, other events to gather information for program additions/improvements and to make contact with potential vendors and entertainers.Researches and reviews other events for potential improvements on marketing the Festival.Tracks maintenance needs and inventory of supplies and equipment related to the Festival.Acts as Gloucester County's spokesperson for the Daffodil Festival; makes presentations to local civic groups, meets with business representatives, etc. to solicit volunteers and financial support.Reviews the Daffodil Festival and ancillary events for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.Performs other duties as assigned.QualificationsPossession of a Bachelor's degree in event management, marketing, tourism or a related field.Three (3) to five (5) years experience organizing and producing large-scale events to include working with committees and volunteers.To be considered for this position, your online application must include a cover letter & three (3) professional references.Professional references are individuals who can attest to your job-related knowledge, skills and abilities while working or in a volunteer capacity and are not family or personally related.
