Staff Mechanical Engineer - Robotics

Staff Mechanical EngineerHumanoid Robotics |Full Time | On-Site / HybridABOUT THE ROLEWe are building the next generation of humanoid robots, and we need exceptional engineers who thrive at the boundary of what is mechanically possible. As a Staff Mechanical Engineer, you will be a technical anchor on the team, driving the design, development, and productionisation of complex mechanical systems across our humanoid platform. You will own significant subsystems from concept through to field deployment, mentor junior engineers, and set the bar for mechanical engineering excellence across the organisation. This is a senior individual contributor role with broad technical scope and real influence on the direction of the product. You will work in close collaboration with systems, electrical, and robotics software teams in a fast-paced, hardware-first environment.WHAT YOU WILL DOLead the end-to-end mechanical design of major humanoid subsystems including actuation, structural chassis, joints, and end-effectorsOwn the full design lifecycle from concept and CAD through prototyping, testing, and manufacturing releaseDrive design for manufacturability and design for assembly across all mechanical systems, working closely with contract manufacturers and suppliersDefine and execute test plans to validate mechanical performance against system requirements, including fatigue, thermal, and dynamic loadingCollaborate with systems engineers on DFMEA, tolerance analysis, and mechanical hazard identificationEstablish and uphold mechanical design standards, CAD conventions, and drawing practices across the teamMentor and technically guide junior and mid-level mechanical engineersContribute to technical reviews, architecture decisions, and cross-functional design discussions with robotics software and electrical engineering teamsEngage directly with manufacturing partners and vendors to ensure designs are buildable at scaleWHAT WE ARE LOOKING FORRequiredBS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field8 or more years of mechanical engineering experience, with a meaningful portion in hardware-intensive robotics or mechatronic productsDeep expertise in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, CATIA, or equivalent) and PDM/PLM systemsProven track record of taking complex mechanical assemblies from whiteboard to working prototype to productionStrong command of GD&T, tolerance stack analysis, and drawing standardsHands-on experience with mechanism design, actuator selection, and structural analysis (FEA)Familiarity with DFMEA and other structured reliability and safety analysis methodsExperience working within cross-functional teams alongside electrical and software engineersAbility to operate independently and make high-quality technical decisions under ambiguityPreferredDirect experience designing for humanoid or legged robot platformsExposure to functional safety standards relevant to robotic systems (e.g. IEC 62061, R15.06, R15.08)Experience with high-power density actuation systems including brushless DC motors, harmonic drives, or hydraulic actuatorsBackground in high-volume manufacturing processes including injection moulding, die casting, sheet metal, and CNC machiningExperience with sim-to-real workflows and understanding of how mechanical design choices influence control and perception performancePrior work at a robotics startup or in a fast-scaling hardware organisationWHY JOIN USWork on one of the most technically ambitious hardware challenges in the worldGenuine ownership and influence over how a category-defining product is builtCollaborative, low-ego engineering culture with a strong emphasis on craft and rigourCompetitive salary, equity, and benefits packageAccess to world-class prototyping and testing facilities
