Onyx has seen immense growth in user activity and strong engagement across product and marketing, driving continued expansion of the team.Role OverviewWe are seeking an experienced and strategic General Counsel to lead our risk and compliance functions. This role will serve as a key advisor alongside executive leadership and play a critical role in navigating the complex and evolving regulatory landscape of sports prediction.Key ResponsibilitiesOversee legal, regulatory, risk, and compliance matters across jurisdictionsAdvise executive leadership on legal risks, business strategy, trading surveillance, and corporate governanceLead licensing efforts and maintain relationships with gaming regulatorsDevelop and implement compliance programs, including responsible gaming initiativesManage litigation, disputes, and outside counsel relationshipsDraft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements (partnerships, vendors, sponsorships, etc.)Ensure adherence to data privacy, advertising, and consumer protection lawsMonitor legislative and regulatory developments in sports prediction and gamingBuild and manage an internal legal and compliance team as the company growsRequirementsJuris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law schoolActive bar membership in good standingStrong knowledge of gaming, sports prediction, or highly regulated sectors (e.g., fintech)10+ years of legal experience, with significant time in-house or advising regulated industriesExperience working with state and/or national regulatory bodiesProven leadership and team-building capabilitiesExcellent negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skillsAbility to operate in a fast-paced, high-growth environmentNice to HavePrior experience as General Counsel or Deputy General CounselDirect experience with sports prediction, online gaming, or iGaming platformsFamiliarity with multi-jurisdictional compliance frameworksLocationWe are based in NoHo in New York City.
