Technical Designer

Our client, an American retailer that owns and operates 4 brands that are well known, is looking for someone to join their team as a Technical Designer in New York City! This is a 3-month W2 contract This role is ideal for someone who enjoys bringing creative concepts to life through detailed technical execution, product construction, and cross-functional collaboration. You’ll work closely with design, product development, and global sourcing teams to ensure products are developed accurately, efficiently, and aligned with brand standards.What You Will Be DoingCreate and maintain technical specifications, BOMs, and tech packs for handbag styles while ensuring all product details are accurately documented for development and productionReview prototypes, samples, and pre-production pieces and provide detailed feedback to maintain design intent, functionality, durability, and overall product qualityPartner closely with design, product development, and sourcing teams to support product execution and troubleshoot technical challenges throughout the development lifecycleCommunicate directly with factories and vendors to clarify construction details, resolve technical issues, and ensure production standards are metUpload and maintain technical documentation within internal systems and vendor communication tools to support efficient workflow and collaborationRequired Skills & ExperienceExperience as a Technical Designer within handbags, accessories, or soft goods Strong understanding of handbag construction, materials, hardware, and functionality Experience reviewing prototypes, samples, and pre-production pieces Ability to create BOMs and detailed tech packs for vendor communication Strong communication skills working with overseas factories and vendors Proficiency with PLM systems and technical design tools Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
