LANGSTON proudly honors this legacy and seeks to\nmaximize activation of the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute through our\nmission, vision and values.\nOVERVIEW\nLANGSTON is seeking an organized, punctual, friendly and reliable individual, who\ncan assist LANGSTON with planning and management of our programs. If you\nenjoy Black arts and culture, love creating processes, stay flexible when change\nhappens and get satisfaction by checking things off your to-do list, this might be\nthe role for you.\nTHE ROLE\nLANGSTON’s Program Coordinator reports to the Program Director and is\nresponsible for coordinating the logistics and administrative operations for a variety\nof programs. Responsibilities include gathering tech and marketing needs from\npartners and artists; coordinating space and equipment usage with our building\npartners on the LHPAI team; making sure all utilized spaces are prepared for\nperformances, classes, and workshops; communicating event needs to the internal\nteam; creating a welcoming environment to patrons, artists and partners.\nThe ideal candidate will be a proven leader and have experience in successfully\nmanaging relationships and projects across multiple arts disciplines. They will be\nself-motivated to ensure all logistical matters are handled as they arise, and within\nthe constraints of budget, time, and space available. The Program Coordinator will\nensure that all programs deliver desirable experiences for LANGSTON’s various\nconstituencies in accordance with the mission of cultivating Black brilliance and\nstrengthening and advancing community through Black arts and culture.\nThe Program Coordinator will work directly with the LANGSTON team, Seattle Office\nof Arts & Culture Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute staff, and various\ncommunities and champions to achieve desired goals and communicate progress.\nRESPONSIBILITIES\nAdministrative and Event Planning\n● Assist with planning and completing LANGSTON events, including but not\nlimited to partner events, classes, youth programs and LANGSTON festivals.\n● Maintaining a working knowledge of the complex technical and logistical\nneeds of a wide variety of events\n● Reporting attendance, maintenance issues, and demographics from each\nevent to the appropriate source.\n● Communicating effectively with our city partners to ensure scheduling of\nrooms and technicians are up to date\n● Record relevant moments to post on social media and share in newsletters\n● Stage managing or house managing as needed\n● Create and execute contracts with our partners and other contractors\n● Assist in recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers and interns as needed.\nAssign tasks and oversee their contributions to the organization\nRelationship Building and Customer Service\n● Establishing and maintaining positive supportive relationships with local and\nvisiting partners and artists during their engagement with Langston\n● Ensuring all visitors and patrons experience a positive, welcoming, and\nhospitable environment in our space\n● Running the box office with integrity for each event and greeting guests\nFacilities and Event Management\n● Opening and closing the building for each event, workshop, rehearsal, class,\netc. as assigned\n● Prepping all spaces to meet event needs and restoring all spaces to “better\nthan you found it” condition\n● Setting up the green room and assisting with catering pre and or post show\n● Coordinating with talent, partners, staff, and crew day-of-show and\ntroubleshooting and resolving issues as they arise\nQUALIFICATIONS\nIDEAL EXPERIENCE\nSuccessful candidates will have command of a majority of the following skills and\nexperience:\n● Extensive knowledge of nonprofit operations\n● Building relationships and negotiating partnerships\n● Excellent written and oral communication skills; experienced public speaker\n● Working knowledge of Google Workspace; ability to learn program/project\nmanagement software\n● Outstanding organizational skills\n● Excellent problem-solving ability\nMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS\nIn order to fulfill the aforementioned duties and responsibilities, the Program\nCoordinator must possess an extensive skill set and qualifications that work together\nto manage events efficiently, including:\n● Working Knowledge of Theater, Music, or Dance productions: The ideal\ncandidate will have working experience stage managing, house managing, or\nin technical theater work.\n● Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Required to network with a wide\nvariety of entities in the course of their job.\n● Team Management: Delegating to volunteers and staff properly and making\nsure everyone has what they need to do their job\n● An Eye for Logistics: skill to properly plan the set up and execution of events\nand anticipate potential problems that may arise to ensure that everything in\nan event is set up in a practical, safe, and useful manner for the guests and\ntalent alike.\nCOMPENSATION\n● $25 per hour, full time contracted position\n● Hybrid work - up to 50% of your work can be done from home\nHOW TO APPLY\nPlease send your application packet to jobs@langstonseattle.org with the\nsubject line: Program Coordinator.
