This includes ensuring the availability of applications, configuring new implementations, and developing processes and procedures for ongoing management of the server environment. The Systems Engineer ensures the physical security, integrity, and safety of the data, servers and backup media. In addition, the Systems Engineer will participate in the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all Host hardware, software, and communication links. This person will lead and coordinate varying research/implementation projects utilizing proper documentation, tools, and task management skills.\n\nResponsibilities\n\nPlan, design, test, implement, and troubleshoot enterprise server and storage systems.\n\nProvide on-call technical support on a rotating schedule.\n\nAssist in research on relevant technology products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry.\n\nImplement and maintain security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and remedy processes.\n\nPerform on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex network problems for end users and support personnel.\n\nAttend training seminars, conferences, and trade shows to broaden knowledge of current and future issues and technologies. Recommend similar learning opportunities for staff.\n\nEnsure confidentiality of sensitive and proprietary information; adhere to company security policies.\n\nRecommend, schedule, and perform improvements, upgrades, and repairs.\n\nAid in development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans. Maintain current knowledge of plan executables.\n\nMonitor the performance of managed systems. Troubleshoot and resolve problem areas as needed.\n\nManage servers and their associated operating systems/software.\n\nMonitor and test systems performance. Provide performance statistics and reports.\n\nDesign, deploy, and maintain company server hosts, storage systems, virtual machines, and related hardware.\n\nPrepare, maintain, and adhere to procedures for logging, reporting, and statistically monitoring systems data.\n\nWrite technical specifications for purchase of server hardware and software products.\n\nProvide training and documentation for support personnel (which includes Help Desk, computer technicians, and trainers), internal/external customers, and management.\n\nDefine and monitor server storage space allotments.\n\nQualifications\n\nBachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience.\n\n3 years of current experience managing a large multi-server environment with at least 1 of those years being extensive on the job experience with VMWare 5.x.\n\nMicrosoft Server technologies.\n\nAfter hours, on call availability.\n\nExperience configuring server operating system security.\n\nAbility to travel domestically and internationally up to 5% of the time.\n\nLocal candidates are preferred for this role because this company does not offer a relocation package, nor do they reimburse for travel expenses to the interview.
