Deriva empowers customers with innovative clean energy solutions that strengthen communities and serve future generations.Position SummaryThe IT Infrastructure Database Administrator is responsible for the administration, support, monitoring, maintenance, security, and remediation of enterprise database platforms across corporate, on-premises, cloud, and NERC CIP-regulated environments. This role supports SQL Server, Oracle, and related database technologies used by various applications across the enterprise.The IT Infrastructure Database Administrator partners with Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, Application Support, Compliance, vendors, and business stakeholders to ensure database systems are reliable, secure, recoverable, and compliant with organizational standards and applicable regulatory requirements.This role is responsible for day-to-day database operations, including performance monitoring, backup and recovery, patching, upgrades, access control, troubleshooting, capacity planning, documentation, and support of critical business and operational systems.This role is based at Deriva Energy Headquarters, located in Charlotte, NC.Key ResponsibilitiesSolution Definition and ReviewCollaborate with application, infrastructure, and development teams to design, review, and support database solutionsEnsure database solutions meet business requirements, operational standards, security requirements, and industry best practicesReview database architecture, configuration, performance, availability, and supportability for new and existing applicationsProvide technical input for database-related projects, upgrades, migrations, and application changes Database Support and MaintenanceAdminister and support enterprise SQL Server, Oracle, and related database platforms across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environmentsProvide operational support for databases supporting various corporate, infrastructure, business, and NERC CIP-related applicationsProvide after-hours or 24/7 support for critical database systems as requiredTroubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents, failed jobs, connectivity issues, storage issues, performance degradation, and application-impacting problemsPerform routine database maintenance, including index maintenance, statistics updates, database cleanup, health checks, and job monitoringSupport database lifecycle activities, including provisioning, configuration, upgrades, decommissioning, and migrationsMonitoring, Remediation, and Performance TuningMonitor database availability, performance, storage, capacity, backup status, scheduled jobs, replication, and overall system healthRespond to database alerts and perform timely remediation to reduce business impactPerform root-cause analysis for recurring issues and recommend long-term corrective actions Implement and maintain database monitoring, reporting, and alerting standardsConduct performance tuning and optimization for queries, indexes, database configuration, and server resource usageGenerate reports on database performance, usage, availability, capacity, and operational metrics as requiredPatching, Upgrades, and Change ManagementPlan, test, and apply database patches, updates, and version upgrades in accordance with organizational policiesValidate patches and upgrades in non-production environments before production deployment where applicableCoordinate database maintenance windows with application owners, Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, vendors, and business stakeholdersFollow established change management processes, including documentation, approvals, implementation plans, validation steps, and backout plansSupport vulnerability remediation efforts related to database platforms and supporting infrastructureOn-Premises and Cloud Database ManagementManage database systems hosted on-premises, in cloud environments, and across hybrid platformsSupport cloud-based database services, including monitoring, performance, backup, recovery, access control, and cost awarenessWork with Infrastructure teams to support database dependencies, including servers, storage, networking, identity, backups, and disaster recovery platformsAssist with database migrations between on-premises and cloud environmentsBackup, Recovery, High Availability, and Disaster RecoveryImplement, monitor, and maintain database backup and recovery strategiesEnsure database backups are successful, properly retained, and regularly testedPerform database restores and recovery activities as neededSupport high availability and disaster recovery solutions for critical database systemsParticipate in disaster recovery planning, testing, documentation, and remediation of identified gapsSecurity, Compliance, and NERC CIP SupportEnsure database platforms are secured in accordance with company policies, cybersecurity standards, and applicable regulatory requirements Support database administration activities within NERC CIP-regulated environments, including access control, change control, audit evidence, and secure configurationImplement and maintain database security controls, including user access, roles, permissions, privileged access, authentication, encryption, and logging where applicableSupport access reviews, compliance requests, audit evidence collection, and remediation of findingsPartner with Cybersecurity and Compliance teams to address database vulnerabilities, control gaps, and regulatory requirementsFollow approved procedures for database changes, access modifications, patching, and administrative activity in regulated environmentsCapacity Planning and Resource ManagementConduct capacity planning to ensure databases can support current and future business needsMonitor and manage database storage, compute resources, memory utilization, and growth trendsRecommend improvements to database sizing, storage allocation, retention, archiving, and resource optimizationIdentify risks related to database capacity, performance, availability, or lifecycle statusDocumentation and Process ImprovementMaintain accurate documentation of database configurations, standards, procedures, maintenance activities, changes, backup schedules, and recovery stepsCreate and maintain operational runbooks for common database support, monitoring, remediation, and recovery tasksDocument database inventory, application ownership, criticality, dependencies, and support requirementsRecommend improvements to database standards, automation, monitoring, reporting, and operational efficiencySupport knowledge transfer and cross-training within Infrastructure and Application Support teamsBasic QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experienceThree (3) years or more of related experience in addition to bachelor’s degree In lieu of a bachelor’s degree in a related field, an associate’s degree in data science, computer science, engineering, statistics, or a related field AND six (6) years of relevant work experience In lieu of an associate’s degree in a related field, HS Diploma/GED AND eight (8) years of relevant work experience Desired QualificationsProven experience as a SQL Server, Oracle, or Enterprise Database AdministratorStrong knowledge of SQL Server and/or Oracle database administrationExperience supporting databases in both on-premises and cloud environmentsExperience with database monitoring, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and optimizationExperience implementing and supporting database backup, restore, and recovery proceduresStrong understanding of database security principles, access controls, privileged access management, and secure configuration practicesExperience supporting production systems, critical applications, and enterprise business environmentsExperience working within incident, request, change, and problem management processesStrong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and problem-solving skillsAbility to work independently and collaboratively across technical and business teamsStrong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts and issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholdersExperience supporting databases in regulated environments such as NERC CIP, SOX, energy, utilities, financial services, or other critical infrastructure sectorsExperience with cloud database platforms, including Azure SQL, Azure SQL Managed Instance, AWS RDS, Oracle Cloud, or similar servicesExperience with high-availability and disaster recovery technologies, including clustering, replication, log shipping, Always On
