District Director of Conservation - SummaryThe District Director of Conservation oversees all programs, funding, and operations for the Soil & Water Conservation District. This role manages conservation initiatives, administers grants, supervises staff and contractors, and works closely with the District Board and partner agencies to protect natural resources.Key Responsibilities:Lead conservation education programs and public outreach efforts.Develop and manage the district budget, strategic plans, and equipment needs with the Board.Coordinate with federal/state partners (NRCS, ISDA, FSA) on conservation efforts.Apply for, manage, and report on grants.Supervise staff and contractors, including hiring, training, and performance management.Handle administrative tasks (reports, payroll, invoices, meetings).Communicate with the public via media, newsletters, and events.Provide regular updates to the Board and county officials.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in conservation or related field, or equivalent experience.Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.Familiarity with software (e.g., GIS, QuickBooks, Microsoft Office).Ability to manage multiple projects and work with diverse stakeholders.Other Requirements:Ability to work flexible hours, including some weekends.Valid driver's license.Capable of both office and field work, including physical activity and exposure to outdoor conditions.Compensation & Benefits: Annual salary: $57,043Affordable medical, dental, vision and life plansPension plan and matching 457bGenerous paid time off (PTO)Up to 16 paid holidays
