Through a commitment to academic excellence, spiritual formation, and holistic student development, Rise Academy partners with families and the community to transform lives.Job Summary: The English Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, rigorous instruction in English Language Arts to students in grades 9-12. This includes instruction in literature, writing, grammar, and communication skills. The teacher fosters a supportive classroom culture, differentiates instruction to meet diverse learning needs, and integrates critical thinking, analysis, and real-world application into daily instruction.Essential Duties:Instruction & CurriculumPlan and deliver high-quality instruction in English courses according to Virginia Department of Education standardsDevelop lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards and Rise Academy's instructional frameworkTeach reading comprehension, literary analysis, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and public speakingIntegrate culturally responsive and relevant texts that reflect diverse perspectivesUtilize data-driven instruction to monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies Classroom Environment & Culture Establish a structured, inclusive, and academically focused classroom environmentPromote student curiosity, collaboration, and scientific inquiryMaintain clear expectations for behavior, safety, and academic integrity Student Support & Development Provide academic interventions and enrichment opportunitiesSupport students in developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skillsCommunicate regularly with families regarding student progress Professional Responsibilities Participate in weekly staff meetings, professional development, and school initiativesEngage in Rise Academy's performance evaluation process (observations, feedback, and goal-setting)Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and assessmentsUphold all school policies, including lab safety and student supervision protocols Community & Mission Alignment Model and reinforce Rise Academy's core values: Respect, Integrity, Service, and ExcellenceContribute to a positive school culture and participate in school-wide eventsServe as a mentor and role model for studentsRequirementsRequired Qualifications:Master's degree in English, Secondary Education, Literature, or a closely related field requiredAt least 3-5 years of teaching experience at the high school level preferredExperience teaching multiple English disciplines (e.g., Literature, Composition, Grammar, Rhetoric, Creative Writing) strongly preferredQualified to teach Dual EnrollmentDemonstrated success improving student achievement in reading comprehension, writing proficiency, and critical analysisFamiliarity with integrating technology and writing-based instructional tools into teaching and learning PreferredVirginia teaching license or eligibilityExperience teaching multiple science subjects across grade levelsExperience with lab-based instruction and safety proceduresTitle 1 or public school experienceBackground in differentiated instruction and data-driven practicesSalary Description
