Primary responsibilities include managing a team of engineers, technicians, and support staff on water and/or wastewater projects from the planning phase through design and construction. The Lead Engineer will independently manage projects, collaborate on design and development of project plans and specifications, mentor team members, and report to a senior engineer or principal. Additional duties include marketing the firm and business development activities.\n\nTypical Tasks and Duties\n\nProvide professional engineering services for clients by conducting studies, planning, design, specifications, plans, reports, construction administration, observation, and project management.\n\nCommunicate frequently and effectively with clients, supervisors, and project team members by providing updates and progress during all phases of projects.\n\nAttend company meetings, project meetings, and client meetings as deemed necessary.\n\nLead the preparation of proposals and participate in interviews to secure work for the firm. Business development responsibilities will increase with experience and mentorship by senior staff.\n\nDemonstrate initiative, think independently, and make rational judgment calls.\n\nProvide direction and work with engineering technicians and other team members on the development of project plans and specifications.\n\nWork and coordinate with other engineering teams on complex multi‑discipline projects.\n\nUnderstand and follow the company employee handbook and mandated safety policies.\n\nPerform responsibilities in a conscientious, legal, and ethical manner with strong attention to detail.\n\nWork independently and in a team environment.\n\nParticipate in professional organizations and community leadership programs as deemed appropriate.\n\nTravel and out‑of‑town stays may be required; overtime may be required especially during the construction season.\n\nOther duties as assigned by the supervisor.\n\nQualifications\n\nBachelor of Science Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering is required; Master’s Degree is a plus.\n\nProfessional Engineer’s license preferred or ability to be licensed within 6‑12 months required.\n\nSeven or more years of experience as a Civil or Environmental Engineer in the water and/or wastewater field.\n\nExperience with water supply, distribution and treatment, wastewater collection, conveyance and treatment is necessary.\n\nExperience preparing civil design drawings, specifications, and cost estimates related to water/sewer utilities, pump stations, and treatment facilities is preferred.\n\nExperience working with local and state agencies is a plus.\n\nStrong project management skills and experience are essential.\n\nConstruction management experience is required.\n\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills are prerequisites.\n\nDetail‑oriented, self‑motivated, with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.\n\nFlexible working style and willingness to adjust personal schedules to meet deadlines and client needs.\n\nProficient using Microsoft Windows/Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).\n\nHydraulic and/or process modeling is a plus.\n\nWorking knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil3D or other CADD‑based civil design software is a plus.\n\nA valid driver’s license is required or the ability to obtain one.\n\nPhysical Requirements\n\nAbility to operate a computer under normal ergonomic office conditions.\n\nRequired to work outdoors during the construction season.\n\nMay require prolonged periods of standing and walking to perform construction observation or surveying.\n\nRequired to lift objects or containers weighing 50 lbs.\n\nMust work scheduled and required hours.\n\nTo perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
