BIOS Firmware Engineer IIPosition SummaryOur client, a global hardware manufacturing company, is seeking a BIOS Firmware Engineer II that will be responsible for the architecture, design, development, and debugging of BIOS and UEFI firmware for computer systems and advanced computing platforms. This role focuses on firmware that initializes hardware and supports system boot operations, ensuring system compatibility, security, stability, and performance from power-on through operating system initialization.This position requires strong hands-on technical expertise in firmware development, hardware bring-up, and system-level debugging, while also contributing leadership through collaboration, technical guidance, and support of engineering initiatives. The BIOS Firmware Engineer II is part of the Engineering Services team, which partners across departments to support engineering and operations teams with technical expertise in electronics, operational software, and systems integration.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, test, and maintain BIOS/UEFI firmware using C and C++.Contribute to all phases of the UEFI boot process, including Security (SEC), Pre-EFI Initialization (PEI), Driver Execution Environment (DXE), and related boot components.Lead hardware bring-up and platform initialization activities for new systems, including debugging complex hardware and firmware interactions across CPU, memory, storage, and peripheral interfaces.Ensure proper initialization and configuration of key system hardware including DDR memory, PCIe, SATA, USB, SPI, I2C, and related interfaces.Optimize boot performance and support implementation of firmware security technologies such as Secure Boot, Intel Boot Guard, and Trusted Platform Module (TPM) integration.Collaborate with hardware engineers to review schematics, datasheets, and board-level designs to ensure accurate hardware configuration and firmware integration.Utilize debugging and diagnostic tools including JTAG, in-circuit emulators, logic analyzers, and related lab equipment to troubleshoot firmware and hardware issues.Participate in code reviews, develop technical documentation, and provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers when needed.Work cross-functionally with hardware, operating system, validation, and security teams to support overall system compatibility, reliability, and performance.Required QualificationsStrong proficiency in C/C++ programming for embedded systems and firmware development.In-depth understanding of UEFI architecture, EDK II framework, x86 architecture, and system boot processes.Solid knowledge of hardware interfaces and protocols, including PCIe, SPI, I2C, SATA, and USB.Experience in troubleshooting low-level firmware and boot-related system issues.Understanding of firmware security technologies and standards, including Secure Boot and NIST SP 800-193.Familiarity with System Management Mode (SMM), Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI), Intel Firmware Support Package (FSP), or Intel Firmware Image (IFWI).Experience using scripting languages such as Python for automation or development support activities is preferred.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical teams.Demonstrated leadership abilities, including mentoring, technical guidance, or leading engineering initiatives.Education & ExperienceBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field.Minimum of 2+ years of BIOS/UEFI firmware development experience with demonstrated technical leadership responsibilities.Experience supporting embedded systems, computing platforms, or hardware bring-up activities preferred.Physical RequirementsProlonged periods of sitting and working at a computer workstation.Ability to access and navigate various engineering and operational areas within company facilities as needed.BenefitsMedical/dental/vision (after eligibility period), vacation, sick time, holidays, FSA/HSA options, and 401(k) match.About Veracity HireVeracity Hire LLC is a professional staffing and recruiting firm based in Orange County, California, connecting exceptional talent with meaningful opportunities across professional, technical, and leadership roles.Our mission: To redefine staffing through authenticity, integrity, and purpose.Staffing with Integrity, Placing with Purpose.
