NDT InspectorThis role performs non-destructive testing (NDT) to verify the quality of finished welds on pipe joints and other fabricated materials in a high-volume manufacturing environment. The NDT Inspector focuses primarily on Magnetic Particle (MT) testing, with additional use of Ultrasonic Thickness (UT) and Liquid Penetrant (LP) methods as needed, while accurately documenting results and supporting overall quality control processes.ResponsibilitiesPerform non-destructive testing (NDT) on finished welds for pipe joints and other fabricated components, ensuring they meet required quality and safety standards.Conduct Magnetic Particle (MT) testing on completed welds for approximately 80% of the workday, following established procedures and acceptance criteria.Inspect weld bevels for approximately 20% of the workday to verify proper preparation and compliance with specifications.Use Ultrasonic Thickness (UT) testing to verify material thickness where required and ensure components meet design requirements.Perform Liquid Penetrant (LP) testing as needed to detect surface discontinuities on welds and related components.Generate nonconformance (NCR) reports and other quality documentation in a clear, accurate, and timely manner.Upload inspection results, NCRs, and related quality documentation into the ERP system, maintaining traceable and organized records.Interpret and work from blueprints and technical drawings to determine inspection requirements and acceptance criteria.Use calipers, micrometers, ultrasonic equipment, and other measuring tools to verify dimensional and thickness requirements.Collaborate with machine shop, weld shop, and quality teams to communicate findings, support corrective actions, and maintain high quality standards.Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of PPE, and maintain a clean and organized inspection area.Support continuous improvement of inspection and quality control processes by providing feedback and identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and accuracy.Essential SkillsAt least 5 years of NDT inspection experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.Level II certification in Magnetic Particle (MT) testing.Level II certification in Ultrasonic Thickness (UT) testing.Level II certification in Liquid Penetrant (LP) testing.Strong background in quality control within a manufacturing setting, preferably related to welds or machined components.Hands-on experience with non-destructive testing and non-destructive examination (NDE) methods, including MT, UT, and LP.Ability to generate accurate inspection reports and nonconformance documentation and upload them into an ERP system.Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.Skilled use of measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and ultrasonic thickness gauges.Demonstrated ability to perform detailed quality inspections with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.Additional Skills & QualificationsExtensive NDT experience in a weld shop or machine shop environment.Extensive quality control experience in a weld shop or machine shop.Experience with dimensional inspection and measurement techniques.Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential is highly desirable.Familiarity with ERP systems for quality and production documentation.Ability to work effectively in a busy, heavy manufacturing environment alongside machining, welding, and warehouse operations.Strong communication skills to clearly convey inspection results and collaborate with cross-functional teams.Why Work Here?You will join a growing operation within a large, established manufacturer that invests in its people and creates opportunities for long-term roles when individuals demonstrate strong performance. The shop uses overhead cranes and jib cranes at every machining station to handle large, heavy parts. The environment is a loud, open-air, non-climate-controlled machine shop with large fans to circulate air. You will work near the machine shop and weld shop, but not directly inside them, and will interact with a diverse workforce across machining, welding, and warehouse areas. There will be one other NDT technician on site during your shift, with a second technician currently on leave for a period of time. Personal protective equipment is required, including steel-toe footwear, jeans, a work shirt, and safety glasses. First shift typically runs from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (with potential adjustment to 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), and usually offers around 40–45 hours per week, with additional hours and weekends depending on production needs. Second shift runs Monday through Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., with occasional Saturdays as needed, while aiming to concentrate most additional hours during the week rather than weekends.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $29.00/hr.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
