Process Engineer

Summary: Process Engineer is responsible for optimizing manufacturing processes and systems by using their proficiency to identify inefficiencies and make recommendations to improve safety, quality, cost and productivity.Reports to the Paper Machine Superintendent to drive continuous improvement, and safe, reliable operation of the Oxnard Mill.Essential Functions of the Job: Provide technical support to the Production Department to optimize performance, increase production efficiency, improve product quality and increase process reliability. Support the production department in troubleshooting acute and chronic technical issues.Participate effectively in the execution of the Technical Department day-to-day activities, including assisting with tasks associated with mill environmental and safety compliance and including the operation of wastewater treatment plant.Collect, use and evaluate data to identify problems with processes and equipment.Use technical skills to identify root causes of failures and design and implement solutions, including process design changes. Also uses these skills to identify potential failures and propose corrective actions that will prevent failures.Coordinate communications and efforts with vendors to execute implementation of the new technologies, chemical programs, production solutions and equipment operation.Develop new specific technical procedures aimed at process and performance improvement.Support development and implementation of capital improvements. Provide expertise and training in the use of operating and troubleshooting processes.Provide initial and ongoing training to the mill employees on various environmental, process and safety topics.Use various software programs and production databases to document and determine effective process operation for equipment maintenance.Execute mill, departmental and personal projects and initiatives to improve safety, reduce costs, minimize waste and improve performance.Participate in planning and execution of trials support collection, processing and auditing the accuracy of data and results/conclusions.A member of the on-call management team.Other duties as assigned.Supervisory Responsibilities: This job is not a supervisory positionQualifications:Require BA in Paper Science or Chemical engineering degree or a related discipline combined with work experience in a process industry (specific experience in the Pulp & Paper industry is highly preferred)Require a minimum of 5 years plus of paper mill experience preferred10 years or more in heavy manufacturing experience a plusMust be able and available to support mill operations for 24-hour operations.Other skills:Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skillsWorking knowledge of Microsoft Suite and the ability to learn new applications.Strong understanding of computerized maintenance management systems such as Maximo.Strong analytical and problem-solving skillsBasic mechanical knowledge and aptitudeMust be able to work independentlyWell-developed people practice, including strong interpersonal skills, the ability to build lasting relationships, provide recognition and demonstrate integrity and high personal standards.Competencies: detail orientated, managerial courage, problem solving, organizational skillsPhysical Demands:Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to:Sit at a desk for long periods of time, or sit while driving a carFrequently use hands to type on a computer keyboard, answer the telephone and file documentsFrequently walk within the office and occasionally the distance of a large manufacturing facilityOccasionally reach with hands and arms above the shouldersVision abilities required are close vision and depth perceptionWork Environment:The noise level within the office is usually quiet and the temperature is regulated to be comfortable.Occasionally the employee is exposed to the Mill work environment which can be hot, and the noise level is loud.The noise level in the work environment is usually loud (80+dB).Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditionOccasionally exposed to loud, moving equipment
