The Software Developer will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive innovation, improve system performance, and deliver technology solutions that meet evolving business and customer needs.\nEssential Functions:\nDevelop backend business application logic to support B&L’s Odyssey ERP primarily using the Progress ABL.\nDevelop application components, internal systems, and other components of B&L’s software packages.\nWrite detail design documents for new features, functions, and modules to be included in B&L's software or internal application systems.\nDesign database components used by the application.\nWrite clear and concise documentation and other reference materials for any features, functions, and modules coded.\nWrite clear and concise high-level module scope documents.\nPerform detailed testing of coded features, functions, and modules.\nWork with the support team to perform detailed 2nd level support for customer reported issues.\nAssist the QA team with version release testing including formal regression tests.\nContinued education and learning of Odyssey's processes and functions.\nContinued education in software development, specifically environments used by B&L.\nProvide knowledge transfer and enhancement training to B&L staff through internal classes.\nProvide regular enhancement training to B&L’s customers through one-on-one training, webinars, and classes.\nAssist in troubleshooting customer reported issues.\nSoftware Engineer Skills and Qualifications:\nExpert in a modern application development language\nFamiliar with SOLID principles of software development.\nFamiliar with object-oriented programming concepts.\nFamiliar with version control systems.\nUnderstanding and proficient in database design concepts.\nUnderstanding of modern User Experience design paradigms.\nProficient in keyboarding.\nProficient in technical writing and documentation.\nProficient in Microsoft Office products and the Windows operating system.\nDesired Skills and Qualifications:\nExpert in at least one modern object-oriented programming language such as C#, TypeScript/JavaScript, or Python.\nExperience with the Progress Advanced Business Language for B&L’s business application environment\nExperience with modern front-end frameworks such as Angular, Vue, or React.\nProficient in browser-based technologies, languages, and features including LESS/SASS/SCSS, CSS3, and HTML5 APIs (localStorage, video, canvas, etc.).\nExperience with the .NET Framework or .NET Core platforms.\nExperience with version control systems.\nUnderstanding of HTTP REST APIs and JSON and how they are used to communicate between programs.\nSubjective Skillsets:\nIndependent worker - able to design, code, and solve problems independently.\nTeam Player - works well within a group setting; able to collaborate with other people effectively and positively.\nAnalytical thinker - able to look at issues from different perspectives, evaluate problems, and design an effective and efficient solution.\nProblem solver - able to assess a situation and figure out what is causing issues or problems.\nExpert in analysis and troubleshooting - able to delve deep into an issue to not only discover the root cause, but to develop a best-practice solution.\nOrganized - able to manage many tasks at once without become overwhelmed; able to easily switch between tasks and prioritize them to accomplish them in the least amount of time.\nImaginative - Able to think outside the box when appropriate, pragmatic when not.\nRequired Education and Experience\n5+ years of experience in application development\nAssociate degree in software development.\nPreferred Education and Experience\n5+ years of experience in application development\nBachelor’s degree in software development or related subject\nWork Environment\nThis job operates in a professional office environment at B&L’s Bridgman offices. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, and copiers.\nWe offer a Hybrid work-from-home (WFH) schedule.
