Occupational Therapist
Job Summary:The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) provides skilled occupational therapy services to residents with the goal of achieving their highest level of independence and functional ability through therapeutic activities designed to improve daily living skills, strength, coordination, and overall quality of life within a long-term care environment.Essential Duties and Responsibilities* Implements Treatment Plans:Carries out individualized occupational therapy treatment plans developed by the in accordance with resident needs, goals, mandatory supervision requirements and facility policies.* Resident Care:Provides therapeutic interventions to improve residents' ability to perform activities of daily living (ADLs), functional mobility, and cognitive-perceptual skills.* Documentation:Accurately documents treatments, progress notes, and resident responses in compliance with state, federal, and facility guidelines.* Collaboration:Communicates effectively with the rehabilitation interdisciplinary team, and nursing staff regarding resident progress, treatment adjustments, and discharge recommendations.* Education and Training:Instructs residents, family members, and caregivers in adaptive techniques, energy conservation strategies, and use of assistive devices.* Safety and Compliance:Ensures a safe treatment environment, adheres to infection control standards, and complies with all regulatory requirements (i.e. Medicare, state, and facility standards).* Quality and Outcomes:Participates in care plan meetings, quality assurance programs, and performance improvement initiatives to support positive resident outcomes.Job RequirementsJob Knowledge and SkillsStrong verbal, written, and presentation communication skillsResponsible, supportive team playerStrong interpersonal and customer service skillsAnalytical, able to make sound decisionsProficient in Microsoft OfficeStrong interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary teamExcellent time management and documentation skillsCompassionate and resident-centered care approachThe ability to speak, read, write, and understand written instructions in EnglishEducation and ExperienceGraduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant programCurrent certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)Active state licensure as a Certified Occupational Therapy AssistantPrior experience in a long-term care or skilled nursing facility preferredWorking Conditions/Physical DemandsMust possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with this position that involve a combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching.Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Above 50 pounds requires a 2 person lift.Lifting/carrying frequently up to 20 pounds.
