McLean County Unit District No. 5Job DescriptionPosition Title: Human Resources Generalist Department: Human Resources- AdministrationReports to: Director of Human ResourcesFLSA Class: Exempt - ProfessionalFTE: 1.0SummaryThe Human Resources Generalist will oversee the onboarding and orientation of all staff groups within the district. Additionally, the HR Generalist will provide ongoing support and guidance to staff and substitutes using the absence management platform, troubleshooting issues and ensuring smooth operations. Working collaboratively with staff, administration, and external partners, this individual will help maintain efficient, effective, and ethical human resources processes across the district.Key ResponsibilitiesMonitor and evaluate the effectiveness of onboarding systems, making data-informed adjustments based on employee feedback, retention trends, and organizational needsCollaborate with Food Service and Custodial/Maintenance leadership to streamline and enhance hiring processes; provide ongoing support to hiring teams and candidates throughout recruitment, selection, and onboardingServe as a central point of contact for staff support, including troubleshooting and resolving technical or onboarding-related challengesDesign and facilitate professional learning opportunities related to human resources policies, compliance, and best practices for staff including a weekly orientation.Develop and implement district-wide strategies to enhance employee engagement, satisfaction, and long-term retentionLead and coordinate initiatives focused on supporting employees during their first one to three years of employment, ensuring a strong foundation for successConduct, analyze, and synthesize data from stay interviews, exit interviews, and climate surveys to identify trends and inform strategic decision-makingOversee the continuous improvement of onboarding and orientation programs to ensure a cohesive and high-quality employee experienceEnsure alignment and coherence between onboarding, mentoring, and ongoing professional support systems across the districtAssess the effectiveness of employee experience and engagement initiatives, refining approaches to maximize impactPartner with principals and district leaders to strengthen building-level culture, staff morale, and inclusive workplace practicesSupport and enhance district-wide employee recognition and engagement programsQualificationsBachelor's degree in Human Resources, Education Administration, Psychology, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or a closely related field required.At least two years of experience in Human Resources, preferably in an educational setting.HR certification (e.g., PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) preferred.Experience working with unions and understanding collective bargaining agreements is a plus.Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.High level of ethical behavior, integrity, and commitment to compliance with district policies and legal standards.Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills, particularly in employee relations matters.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.Physical RequirementsAbility to sit or stand for extended periods.Ability to use a computer and other office equipment.Occasional travel between district sites may be required.CompensationThe salary range for this position is $60,600-92,700 annually.
