Jacobs’ Northeast tunnel group designs underground projects and supports construction. Recent projects and roles include\n\nDesign and construction of tunnels and caverns by TBM, drill and blast, and SEM methods.\n\nDesign of microtunnels and EPB TBM tunnels.\n\nDesign and consulting for major upgrade to major US infrastructure projects.\n\nEngineering support for major tunnel construction projects.\n\nRepresentative Duties and Responsibilities\n\nWorks under supervision of experienced tunnel engineers.\n\nMaintains effective communications with the engineering team and clients.\n\nPerforms calculations to design excavation support and linings and shoring systems.\n\nPrepares design drawings and assists in specifications preparation.\n\nPrepares technical reports and presentations to present findings and recommendations.\n\nReviews contractor construction submittals.\n\nObserves and reports on construction activities and ground conditions during construction.\n\nPerforms field investigation as needed by the project.\n\nHere’s What You’ll Need\n\nMaster’s degree in structural engineering\n\nEligible to work in the United States\n\nHybrid position – minimum 2 days in Jacobs’ office, preferably reporting to either our New York, New Jersey, or Boston office.\n\nSkilled in structural analysis and design, including experience using structural analysis and design software such as SAP2000, STAAD, spColumn,\n\nProficiency in the interpretation and application of the following structural engineering codes and standards is a requirement ACI‑318; AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications; ASCE 7 Minimum Design Loads.\n\nAdditional experience with the following structural codes and standards is preferred AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code; AREMA.\n\nWillingness to perform periodic visits to construction sites (after being trained for site‑specific safety requirements).\n\nOn track to obtain Professional Engineer license (e.g., already obtained Engineering‑in‑Training, on‑track to obtain PE within 3 to 4 years).\n\nCAD skills including AutoCAD, Civil3D, and possibly MicroStation.\n\nBIM skills such as Autodesk Revit or Bentley Systems equivalent preferred.
