Work on projects assigned, follow established procedures.Qualifications:Education/Certification:Valid Texas commercial driver's license (Class B w/S & P Endorsements)High School Diploma or equivalentCertified in CPR and First Aid (Preferred)Obtain State CI & Safety Inspector Certification within 180 day of employmentSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Must be 18 years of ageAbility to communicate effectivelyAbility to follow written and verbal instructionAbility to pass alcohol and drug test. (Pre-employment & random)Have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report meeting the requirements of the State of Texas.Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs with general supervision.Ability to operate tools and equipment involved in vehicle repair.Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts.Ability to complete required Texas School Bus Certification Course.Ability to operate school bus.Experience:Two years experience as mechanicMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Maintenance and RepairsUse diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical, electrical, and A/C problems in vehicles and make repairs.Do welding and minor body work.Service vehicles according to established preventive maintenance schedule. Inspect, repair, and rotate tires. Change oil and filters; lubricate vehicle parts; inspect hoses, belts, lamps; and maintain all fluid levels.Maintain accurate, updated records of preventive maintenance.Inspect vehicles and evaluate condition of systems, equipment, and lights; service as needed.Demonstrate process of preventive maintenance and visual inspections to mechanic helpers.Perform preventative maintenance; including bleeding of air tanks, on shop equipment according to established schedules.SafetyReport any involvement in an accident immediately.Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor.Operate tools, equipment and machinery according to established safety procedures.Follow established procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, etc.Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the shop, equipment and tools to maintain safe working conditions.Keep abreast of all safety procedures and MSDS sheets.OtherOperate buses and vehicles as needed, including driving buses into shop area for work or on a route if needed.Become familiar with and follow procedures established by transportation.Exercises professional judgment in being present and punctual at work and attends all in-service and staff meetings on time as required by Director of Transportation.Maintains a neat and clean appearance and adheres to the department policy concerning attire.Assist in inventory management.Maintains accurate records of time and materials required to perform repairs and service.Work irregular hours as needed.Report promptly to the supervisor any accident or illness of staff or students.Other duties as assigned by administration.Promote, participate, and facilitate in a teamwork center manner.Supervisory Responsibilities:NoneEquipment Used:Automotive diagnostic equipment, tools needed for repairing or changing tires, small hand tools, drill, drill press, grinder, air-powered tools, torque wrench, jack, air compressor, and welding torch and lift equipment.
