Job Description A Tennessee Special Education Comprehensive Development Class (CDC) teacher provides specialized academic and physical training to students with the most significant disabilities in a self-contained classroom setting. The role involves developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with federal and state laws.If the following job requirements and experience match your skills, please ensure you apply promptly.Key ResponsibilitiesThe essential functions of a Special Education CDC teacher include:Instruction and Curriculum: Plan and prepare lessons and materials tailored to each student's unique needs, abilities, and physical limitations. This includes providing intensive and systematic instruction and adapting the general education curriculum.Assessment and Evaluation: Administer formal and informal assessments (e.g., Brigance scales, behavioral assessments) to determine eligibility for services, track student progress, and guide instructional decisions.IEP Management: Conduct IEP team meetings with parents and other staff members to develop, write, and monitor appropriate IEPs, ensuring all goals and services are met and legally compliant.Behavior Management: Establish a safe and orderly classroom environment by setting clear behavioral guidelines and implementing positive behavior modification programs.Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with general education teachers, parents, administrators, related services personnel (e.g., speech therapists, occupational therapists), and paraeducators.Documentation and Compliance: Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential student records and documentation as required by federal (IDEA), state, and local regulations.Supervision: Provide direction, supervision, and mentorship for assigned educational assistants/paraprofessionals.Physical Assistance: Assist students with various physical needs, which may include lifting, moving, positioning, or helping with self-help skills like toileting and feeding.QualificationsCandidates for a Special Education CDC teacher position in Tennessee must have:A bachelor's degree from an accredited universityA valid Tennessee teaching license with the appropriate endorsementStrong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.The ability to meet physical and health requirements of the position. xhyhwjd For more information on state requirements, you can visit the Tennessee Department of Education website.
