Bus Aide - Floater
DescriptionAssists children in the following: getting on the bus and to their assigned seats; in fastening and unfastening child seat harnesses; and in getting off the bus safely.Assure that personally identifiable tags / badges are on the children during boarding.Assure that the children are safely seated while the bus is in operation.Responsible for maintaining order and proper behavior of the children on the bus so that the bus driver will not be distracted from safe driving.Walk children across the street when necessary.Ensure that children are always correctly released to their Authorized person(s).Sees that documentation and recordkeeping, both manually and electronically, are timely and accurately completed and maintained as required by program policies and procedures.Learn the bus route and assist whenever a substitute driver is responsible for the daily route.Assist the bus driver in cleaning seats and floors, disinfecting, and removing trash or litter from the bus daily.Knowledgeable of emergency items on the bus (i.e., first aid kit, fire extinguisher, seat belt cutter, emergency procedures/plan, child emergency cards, flashlight, cell phone, etc.).Maintain a valid CPR/First Aid certification and responsible for the First Aide Kit on the bus. (CPR/First Aid training is provided by CCAA.)Assist the Bus Driver with the pre- and post-inspections of the bus.Responsible for assisting in all areas of the Center, including but not limited to, relieving classroom staff when they need a break, participating in active supervision when the students are engaged in outdoor play, performing daily visual external checks of facility, participating in general cleaning/sanitizing of the center, or other duties as deemed necessary by the Center Manager.Attend all required meetings and training.Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Bus Driver, Transportation Coordinator or Center Manager. RequirementsMust have a High School Diploma or GED.Must be able to maintain Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) / First Aid certification.Ability to lift and carry a 40-60-pound child or other objects.Must be responsible and dependable and possess patience, emotional stability and love for children.Must be able to communicate positively with parents, staff, and children. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Good vision and hearing.Able to use technology, such as smart phones, tablets, or laptops to complete job duties.Ability to read maps, street signs, and read and interpret emergency and warning signs.Able to perform the following or similar tasks with or without reasonable accommodation:Sitting for long periods of time while riding (up to 3 hours at one interval).Bending and/or squatting to retrieve items from the bus floor and under bus seats.Kneeling at child's level to assist children in/out of seat harnesses.Bending at waist to place child in bus restraint seat.Pushing and pinching to buckle self and children in/out of seat belts frequently.Walking up and down 3 or more consecutive bus steps at least 17-1/2" high during a bus route.Able to walk through a 141⁄2" width at the waist (approx. 32" high) between seats to maneuver through the bus aisles.Able to work with children in wheelchairs to ensure that the wheelchairs are secure.
