Program Specialist
Job Summary: Quality Housing Coalition (QHC) is seeking a dedicated, energetic, and detail-oriented Program Specialist to join our Eviction Prevention Program team. This role is crucial in ensuring that clients at risk of eviction receive the necessary support through Quality Housing Coalition’s emergency rental assistance program. The ideal candidate will have experience in client intake processes, a strong understanding of eligibility criteria, and a compassionate approach to working with individuals facing housing instability in a high volume, fast-paced environment. This position is available to be filled immediately. Applications will be accepted through 9/27 with processing commencing the same day.
This is a full-time, fifteen month position with the work based out of QHC’s Portland office and/or the option to work remotely with a salary of $55,000 with a top-tier health insurance plan, 48 days Paid Time Off Per year (30 days PTO & 18 paid holidays), and a Maine Retirement Investment Trust Roth IRA program.
Program Specialist Responsibilities:
Conduct initial client intakes to gather relevant information and assess the need for emergency rental assistance.
Review and verify client documentation, including proof of income, , lease agreements, and outstanding rent balance statements to evaluate eligibility based on program guidelines and criteria.
Work with applicants to ensure all documentation is accurate, complete, and in compliance with program policies and regulations.
Maintain and update client records in the program’s database, working with software administrator to ensure confidentiality and data security.
Coordinate with other service providers and agencies to ensure clients receive comprehensive support and follow-up services as needed, and provide a network of auxiliary resources to those not actively receiving support services.
Provide clients with information about additional resources and services available to them.
Communicate effectively with clients to explain program procedures, eligibility criteria, and the status of their application.
Offer empathetic support and guidance to clients navigating the application process and dealing with potential denial or delays.
Stay informed about changes in program regulations, eligibility criteria, and best practices related to eviction prevention and rental assistance.
Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in a related field preferred.
Experience in a client-facing role, preferably within a social services or housing assistance program preferred.
Basic understanding of housing assistance programs and eligibility criteria.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse client base.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and experience with client management databases.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
