Driver - Part time
Position Summary
Our mission is to prevent, reduce and eliminate poverty, hunger and homelessness. We do this by offering immediate assistance and long-term solutions. Our services are grounded in a deep respect for the dignity inherent in each human being.
The Driver fulfills the objective of Hope the Mission by transporting clients of the Thrive Grove Navigation Center to three primary locations and return to the site. These locations are as follows:
Conejo Clinic
Transit Center
Janss Park & Ride
Thrive Grove Navigation Center
Routes to these locations occur Monday – Friday, three times a day: 10:00 am, 12:00 pm, 4:00 pm and 7:00 PM.
The Driver may also provide individual transportation to clients to off-site appointments as requested by management.
The Driver will primarily work Monday to Friday 3:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
1. Safely and timely drive the clients to shelter and back.
2. Ensure cleanliness of the vehicle by routinely washing both inside and outside including removing any trash or debris, etc.
3. Carry out routine inspection on the car to ensure that it is always in good condition.
4. Proactively Identify electrical and mechanical problems that may hinder the smooth operation of the car and carry out minor repairs and maintenance where necessary.
5. Consider different routes, check climate and traffic reports to decide the best time to travel and the best route to take.
6. Safely keep receipts for gas, maintenance, and other records and reports concerning the vehicle or incidents
7. Follow safety policies and procedures.
8. Keep a transportation log to record pickups and drop-offs at every designated location.
9. Assist passengers with special needs entering and leaving the vehicle. ADA compliance.
10. Additional duties designated by management staff.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Proven experience as a driver (1+ year preferred)
2. Current valid Commercial Class C Driver’s License with Passenger Endorsement with good driving record (Required)
3. Driver’s License (Required)
4. Passion for working in a high tolerance harm reduction model with individuals who have multiple barriers.
5. Experience working with highly vulnerable individuals who are experiencing homelessness, severe mental illness, substance addiction and medical barriers.
6. Excellent knowledge of public safety and security procedures/protocols
7. Integrity and professionalism
Mandatory Requirements:
1. Must be able to qualify for HTM’s commercial insurance coverage
2. Driving is an essential function of this position
3. Tuberculosis and drug test
4. Must pass background screening
5. Employment eligibility verification (I-9)
6. Approval of Motor Vehicle Record report prior to employment
7. Must pass drug test

Employee may work in proximity to service animals and emotional support animals; Use a desktop and/or laptop computer; copy, postage, and fax machines. Complete all required forms in personal writing.
Work Environment:
The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using alcohol and drugs, and who may not be attentive to basic personal hygiene, health and safety practices. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the clients use of alcohol and drugs, and lack of personal hygiene. The employee must be ready to respond quickly and effectively to many types of situations, including crisis situations and potentially hostile situations. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate in an office setting. Sometimes work may become stressful when working under pressure.
