EHS Engineer: Battery Safety & Compliance Lead
AESC is looking to add an Engineer 3 Environmental, Health and Safety to our team in Columbia, SC.Full-TimeOn-siteAs a key member of AESC US LLC, the EHS Engineer (Level 3) will play a crucial role in advancing our mission to lead in full-value-chain battery solutions for a sustainable future. Reporting to the EHS Manager, you will be responsible for developing and implementing procedures, guidelines, and recommending equipment to promote and ensure industrial safety and health.Your work within the EHS team will directly impact our strategic goals and contribute to our position as a global leader in battery technology.What You Will DoSupport the Development, Implementation, and Execution of MDS safety policies, requirements, and programsMaintain Safety RecordsReview documents to verify compliance with Safety Policies and requirementsSupport System Safety Risk Identification and Management ProcessesEvaluate Safety documentation, system design, and baseline changesReview Program-level system safety assessment reports for completeness, technical accuracy and assessment of safety riskReview verification evidence and provide an assessment of whether safety specifications, hazard mitigations, and requirements are metConduct Program Reviews and MeetingsAttend and support system-level design reviews and assessing changes throughout the life cycle of the Programs/ProjectSupport design and test reviews, change and failure review boards, and technical interchange meetings to identify and characterize risksSupport milestone reviews including Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR), Test Readiness Reviews (TRR)Assist in the tracking and closure of safety-related action items assigned during program reviews/meetingsConduct Safety Audits and report deficiencies identified in the audits related to the implementation of and compliance with safety policiesPerform safety audit follow-ups, track findings, and verify closure within the guidelines identifiedParticipate in the development and review of safety risk assessments and other safety analysis and assist in obtaining approval from the appropriate authorityDevelop work instructions related to EHSSupport Safe Conduct System Demonstration ActivitiesEvaluate mission-specific safety risks, particularly for the interaction of the test event with other systemsAssess test architecture for safety concerns and review test plans and procedures for safety concernsSupport the development of Final Hazard Classification (FHC) detailed plansParticipate in pre-test reviews, such as Test Planning Reviews (TPRs)Participate in daily status briefingsParticipate in Failure Reviews and Mishap InvestigationsDevelop and publish Hazard Classification DocumentationComplete Department of Transportation documentation in accordance with Federal RegulationsComplete other duties as assignedWhat You NeedBachelor's degree in safety engineering, industrial technology, or a related field3 years of related experience at a professional level is requiredWorking knowledge of Statistics and related Improvement ProcessesAbility to identify unsafe situations or potentially unsafe safety lawsStrong knowledge of applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standardsKnowledge of PSM (Process Safety) and RMP (Risk Management) processesEffective Problem-Solving/Root Cause AnalysisAbility to work cross-functionally with staff in all departmentsExperience working and leading a team across cultural and discipline boundariesExperience or willingness to work in a global context, with an understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with operating in diverse international marketsProven ability to thrive in a fast-paced and evolving environment, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to meet changing business needs and prioritiesProficient skills in Microsoft Office applications and conferencing systemsUnderstands and follows all standards of IATF16949 and VDA 6.3 quality standards.
