General Manager - Operations

O.E. DuRant, Inc., located in Wilmington, NC and Charleston, SC, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Moran Towing Corporation, and, working with Moran Environmental Recovery, provides ship chandlery and line boat services to customers. Moran Towing Corporation is one of the oldest companies in America and has prospered by continuously reinventing itself for over 160 years. POSITION SUMMARY
The General Manager (GM) is responsible for all day-to-day operations of O.E. Durant Charleston (“Company”). The GM directly oversees safety, personnel management, and financial functions, and works closely with upper management in creating budgets and strategy for improving the Company’s overall profitability. This position requires a working knowledge of Moran Towing Corporation’s Safety Management System (SMS).
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
Safety and Operations
Leads quality improvement processes as the primary Safety Officer, including motivating and expecting others to always work with safety and quality as primary objectives.
Tracks regulatory issues and compliance for the SMS and is the local SMS Document Controller.
Ensures the safe operation and maintenance of equipment.
Ensures that the products the Company buys, stores, and delivers are of the highest quality and proper specifications as related to customer requests.
Ensures Company policies and procedures are implemented throughout the Company.
Conducts supervisor inspections of vessels.
Ensures that the Operations Manager is adequately manning vessels with personnel who are certified, trained, medically fit, qualified, and appropriately experienced.
Ensures that audit results are distributed and discussed with the applicable entity.
Executes corrective actions related to incidents and near misses.
Legal, Financial and Administration
Ensures the Company is compliant with all permits and certifications.
Achieves budgeted net operating income for the operation.
Creates and implements a strategy designed to grow the business in conjunction with the Director of Maritime Support Services and Chandlery.
Helps develop, implement, and administer the annual budget and monthly variance reporting, and recommends capital expenditures.
Manages inventory levels and identifies and resolves any issues in inventory or process functions in a timely manner.
Approves work orders, purchase orders, and invoices.
Oversees and directs the day-to-day AP and AR functions, including monitoring the collections of all receivables, executing appropriate collection processes, and directing and assisting with billing and collection of all monies and charges.
Communicates key issues and results with Moran’s support services (Accounting, Finance, Safety, Legal, Engineering Services, and Human Resources).
Ensures sales and use taxes and bonded warehouse license fees are filed and paid in a timely manner.
Personnel
Screens, interviews, hires, and trains employees who report directly to the GM position. The GM must provide the final authorization for any subordinates who are hired by the GM’s direct reports.
Conducts performance evaluations, including providing regular feedback to employees via annual “SMART” performance objectives, mid-year and annual reviews, and other communication mechanisms.
Develops an action plan for each direct report to identify opportunities for further career development.
Coordinates appropriate training for personnel.
Directs job results by coaching, counseling and disciplining employees, and planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
Oversees all personnel functions and budgets.
Reviews and approves all payroll time sheets, ensuring that any errors are corrected before submission to Payroll.
Maintains a professional and technical knowledge base by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks.
Business
The GM is the primary point of contact for all issues relating to O.E. Durant and makes decisions in the best interest of both the customer and the Company.

REQUIRED QUALFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree.
Strong knowledge of MS Word and Excel in an environment requiring administrative, financial, and clerical duties to support the office.
Valid Driver’s License and good driving record are required and must be maintained during employment. The incumbent must adhere to the requirements of the Company’s Driver Safety Policy.
Demonstrated ability to connect with customers and advance business objectives.
Strong interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills, including ease with phone and in-person contacts.
Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
Ability to be a positive leader of a dedicated team.
Ability to identify problems and proactively resolve issues.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Business or Marketing related degree.
Previous experience in the food service industry which may include experience in transportation, warehousing, marketing, and distribution of food products.
Familiarity with Microsoft Navision or Business Central 365.
