This individual is responsible for designing, installing, monitoring, maintaining, and performance tuning production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability. He/she is also responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software. Initial focus will be on database administration, particularly in making sure all production databases are up and running 24x7, and making sure all databases are backed up properly.Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Responsible for implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical SQL Server RDBMS systemsEnsure all production databases are up and running 24x7Ensure all data assets are protected by designing and implementing the appropriate backup and restore strategyMonitoring database performance, including stored procedures and query execution times, and implement efficiency improvementsRespond to and resolve database access and performance issuesMonitor and optimize the physical data storage for database systemsPerform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hoursPlan, coordinate and implement database migrations and upgradesPerform database security auditsEstablish appropriate database access control levelsConfigure SQL to achieve high levels of performance, scalability, and availabilityExperience with SQL HADR technologies; including failover clustering and always-on availability groupsDesign and implement disaster recovery strategyParticipate in the On Call rotationSQL Encryption technology including TDE and Network traffic encryptionRequirements: Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or equivalent7+ years of experience in Information Technology working in a MS SQL DBA capacity.Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.Hands-on database development, tuning, and troubleshooting experienceMigrating, Upgrading SQL Server to later SQL versionsMust be a Team playerThe ability and desire to rapidly learn complex technologies and software products in a self-starting mode without the benefit of formal trainingGood written and oral communication skillsGood interpersonal skillsAbility to conduct research into database/software issues, standards, and products as requiredHighly self-motivated and directedKeen attention to detailProven analytical and problem-solving abilitiesAbility to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environmentAbility to lead in projects and work effortsStrong customer serviceRequired experience is commensurate with the selected job level:The Senior IT Specialist level requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and 5-8 years of relevant job related experienceThe Lead IT Specialist level requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and 8+ years of relevant job related experienceThe Principal IT Specialist level requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and 10+ years of relevant job related experience.Preferred Technical SkillsMicrosoft SQL Server 2014 and greaterPowershellServiceNowFoglight / LitespeedEncryption / SQL TDEVormetric/CiphertrustWorking Conditions: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.Usually, normal office working conditions.Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged sitting or standing.
