Position Summary:
Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle TN, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Kitchen Operations Director, the Camp Cook is responsible for preparing and serving food for meals and special events at Camp Widjiwagan.
Essential Functions:
· Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
· Constantly assists with attaining the entire facility’s goals of cleanliness and excellent first impression
· Provides outstanding food quality and service to our guests
· Assists in all aspects of safety in food service areas
· Inspects equipment within food service areas for safety hazards, damage or wear
· Communicates to Kitchen Operations Director and/or Assistant Kitchen Operations Director Coordinator concerns or incidents that may need follow-up
· Is courteous and gives sincere attention to staff by answering questions and troubleshooting issues
· Helps create a safe, positive and fun work and dining environment for all staff, campers and guests.
· Acquires certifications as necessary for the role.
· Carries out other duties as assigned by the Kitchen Operations Director
Qualifications:
Passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA
An enthusiastic personality with the desire to serve members, volunteers, guests, participants and staff to create a culture of service within our programs
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
· Must present a professional image and possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative
· Must be able to use kitchen equipment safely and according to manufacturer’s requirements, along with the ability to assess the condition of food
· Minimum 18 years of age
· High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
· No experience needed
Certifications Required:
· Before start of 1st shift: New Hire Orientation training
· Within two weeks of hire or before 1st shift with children (whichever comes first): CPR/ First Aid/ AED

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand; walk on uneven surfaces; sit; handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. The employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level is usually minimal to moderate.
