The Creative Writing Instructor will design and lead creative writing workshops for diverse participants, guiding them through exercises in poetry, prose, and hybrid forms while fostering an inclusive, encouraging environment. Day-to-day responsibilities include planning curricula, preparing teaching materials, facilitating group discussions, providing individual feedback on participants’ work, and assessing learning progress. The role also involves coordinating workshop schedules, collaborating with Elyssar Press staff on special events or readings, and supporting participants who wish to refine pieces for potential publication. The instructor is expected to uphold Elyssar Press’s mission by amplifying diverse voices and nurturing creative expression across cultures and backgrounds.Role Description Develop a clear, engaging curriculum, session outline, and downloadable resource materials/prompts for students.Lead interactive, live virtual or in-person workshop sessions.Provide constructive, supportive feedback on student writing exercises (or manuscript critiques for multi-week cohorts).Represent the values of Elyssar Press by fostering an inclusive, welcoming, and culturally conscious learning environment.Partner with our marketing team to promote your workshop across professional and creative networks.Qualifications and ExperiencePublished author, poet, translator, editor, or experienced writing educator with a strong portfolio. Strong creative writing skills in multiple genres (such as poetry, fiction, or nonfiction), with a portfolio or publication record that reflects craft and originality.Demonstrated experience facilitating creative writing workshops, webinars, or university-level courses. Proven teaching experience, preferably in creative writing or related arts, using learner-centered and inclusive instructional approaches. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to provide clear, constructive, and respectful feedback.Experience in delivering training or coaching in literary or educational settings, with an emphasis on creative skill development.Ability to create an inclusive, culturally responsive classroom environment that supports writers of all identities and experience levels.Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the capacity to plan curricula, manage multiple workshops, and meet deadlines.Background in education, such as a degree in Creative Writing, Literature, Education, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Deep understanding of craft, manuscript editing, translation, or hybrid storytelling.Excellent facilitation skills with the ability to manage group discussions and keep students engaged.Comfort with basic digital tools (document sharing, presentation software) and willingness to integrate multimedia materials into instruction.Familiarity with contemporary literature and diverse voices, and interest in supporting work in multiple languages or traditions.Elyssar Press offers flexible, competitive instructor compensation structures aligned with industry benchmarks.
