This role serves as the lead in developing processes and managing sustainability pilots that unite technical operations and innovation with cultural impact in Black Rock City.\nThis is a full-time role based in either the San Francisco or Reno office. In office attendance is expected 3 days per week. In addition, there are responsibilities in Black Rock City for a period of 3-4 weeks, and in other locations as needed. Working hours will be based on Pacific Time.\nThe deadline to apply for this role is 5:00 pm Pacific on June 12th, 2026.\n\nDUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS\nProject Development and Management (30%)\nLead designing frameworks and evaluation processes for the testing of emerging technologies in Black Rock City.\nEvaluate and scope opportunities with the Director of Regeneration and Event Operations teams, and recommend pilot projects.\nDevelop project briefs and plans, ensuring project management processes and documentation meet organizational standards.\nFoster engagement among staff, partners and the community to align technical results with Burning Man culture.\n\nProject Tracking & Operational Administration (30%)\nDrive Asana integration and SOP roadmap implementation to improve departmental coordination on the Net Zero BRC portfolio supported by the Regeneration Department.\nMaintain departmental trackers and files in Google Drive for version control and accessibility.\nSupport working group scheduling, meeting agenda production, and post meeting follow-up.\nManage portfolio-level finance trackers and provide insights to inform departmental planning.\nStandardize templates and SOPs to ensure cohesion across all working groups.\n\nPre-Event & On-Ground Event Logistics (20%)\nCoordinate deployment, planning and on-playa logistics, including contract negotiations, resource requests and tracking.\nSupport field execution of regenerative projects, ensuring compliance, safety, and successful implementation (gate access, resource requests, entry item, etc).\nContribute to on-playa data collection and documentation of projects and collaborations.\nFacilitate on-ground community engagement, such as guided tours and/or workshops.\n\nReporting & Communications (15%)\nTranslate technical data and project outcomes into clear, engaging narratives for internal, public, and donor communications.\nCreate visually compelling presentations and reports.\nSupport data collection processes for annual impact measurements and reporting.\nContribute to the development and execution of communication plans and strategy\n\nOther Functions (5%)\nPerform other duties as assigned.\n\nLEARNING AND TEACHING\nDocumentation - Drives the creation, publishing, and maintenance of process documentation related to assigned duties.\nTeaching – Takes a leadership role in the acculturation and training of staff. Teaches live or e-learning classes, as requested. Promotes a culture of teaching and learning throughout the community.\nMentoring - Mentors subordinates in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and experience that will allow them to advance in the organization. Aids, encourages and inspires their team.\nTraining development - Collaborates with the education team to develop training materials in their area of expertise, as requested.\nLearning – Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes.
