We move fast, solve complex problems, and bring a tech-first culture to an industry in dire need of modernization.Key Responsibilities:Microservices & API Design: Architect, design, and implement RESTful and GraphQL services, defining clear API contracts, versioning strategies, and documentation.Database & Schema Management: Design and maintain relational database schemas, optimize queries and indexing strategies for performance, ensure backup, recovery, and data integrity processes, and collaborate with data teams on governance and modeling.Performance & Scalability: Optimize system performance using profiling, load testing, caching strategies, and autoscaling to meet high availability requirements.Infrastructure & Deployment: Manage provisioning and deployment processes using modern tools and best practices to ensure consistent, scalable, and reliable environments.Observability & Reliability: Build and maintain monitoring, logging, and tracing solutions, and participate in on-call rotations to ensure system reliability.Secure Coding & Access Controls: Enforce secure coding practices, implement permission controls, manage authentication and authorization mechanisms, and adhere to secure development guidelines.Technical Leadership: Contribute to architecture and design reviews, conduct thorough code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and champion best practices and coding standards.Cross-Functional Communication: Serve as a strong team player partnering closely with product, operations, sales, and executive teams; demonstrate outstanding communication to align stakeholders and deliver impactful solutions.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.3+ years of software engineering experience in a fast-paced, tech-driven environment, with a proven track record of building and scaling production-grade systems.Proficiency in multiple programming languages and familiarity with modern web frameworks and RESTful APIs.Experience designing, deploying, and maintaining cloud-based infrastructure.Strong understanding of system architecture, distributed systems, and performance optimization.Demonstrated leadership in code reviews, technical design discussions, and mentorship of junior engineers.Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to lead complex projects to completion.","company":"Eterna","rawCompany":"eterna","city":"Irvine","state":"CA","isRemote":false,"isActive":false,"createdAt":"2026-09-01T12:26:00.271Z","occupations":[{"code":"15-1252.00","title":"Software Developers","slug":"software-developers"},{"code":"15-1299.08","title":"Computer Systems Engineers/Architects","slug":"computer-systems-engineers-architects"},{"code":"15-1251.00","title":"Computer Programmers","slug":"computer-programmers"}],"industries":[{"code":"513210","title":"Software Publishers","slug":"software-publishers"},{"code":"541511","title":"Custom Computer Programming Services","slug":"custom-computer-programming-services"},{"code":"541512","title":"Computer Systems Design Services","slug":"computer-systems-design-services"}],"jobPosting":{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"JobPosting","title":"Software Engineer","description":"Job DescriptionAbout UsEterna is a rapidly scaling, privately funded tech startup reinventing how life and health insurance is bought and sold.
