Team members collaborate on projects that balance operational needs with environmental stewardship and regulatory expectations, offering meaningful opportunities to contribute to sustainable resource development.General ResponsibilitiesThe Mining Engineer/Mine Inspector consists of the following key responsibilities:Surface Mining and Reclamation Act (SMARA) Program Compliance Team field inspector responsible for completing annual reviews of over 100 active mine sites in California and assisting lead agencies (local government) and mine operators in fulfilling annual responsibilities under SMARA. Key responsibilities include: travel to and conduct annual field inspections pursuant to Public Resources Code Section (PRC) 2774 and Section 2775; assesses and documents existing field conditions, including taking photos and coordinates aerial mapping with graphics specialists; review of current entitlements and project files of mining operations subject to SMARA, such as use permits, reclamation plans, plan amendments, mining plans and all conditions of approval, as well as prior inspection reports prepared by the State Mining and Geology Board (SMGB) and/or lead agency; coordinates with mine operators regarding day-to-day operations, ongoing reclamation, and annual projections; coordinate with lead agency staff on, but not limited to, current site conditions and potential violations related to SMARA, conditions of compliance or boundary issues; reviews of or preparation of, financial assurance calculations related to grading, revegetation and other site reclamation tasks as required under SMARA; work directly with the SMARA Program Manager to assist with coordinating with lead agency staff and operators to develop annul inspection schedules, coordinate submittals of annual documentation from operators, prepare/review annual inspection reports, and coordinate submittals to the Division of Mine Reclamation (DMR); and complete required state inspection form.Additional key responsibilities for this role would be assisting the environmental review project team involve developing mining and reclamation plans, provide recommendations for construction aggregate quarries, contributing to environmental analyses and provide documentation support for environmental studies/documents; problem-solving abilities; identifying site and project issues and presents potential solutions or alternatives; actively furthers implementation of projects involving planning, permitting and environmental analysis;
