Job Title: Ophthalmology Tech ILocation: Rochester Eye Associates - BrightonDepartment: OphthalmologyHours Per Week: 40 Hours, Full-timeSchedule: Monday-Friday, 8a-5p, Thursday until 6 on a rotating basisSummaryAs an Ophthalmology Technician, your attention to detail and knowledge in eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms, and ocular medicines contribute to the overall success of quality patient care.ResponsibilitiesPromptly and professionally assist the doctor in patient care.Manages patient flow.Demonstrates working knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms, and ocular meds.Obtains a thorough medical, ocular, social history and chief complaint from the patient.Obtains visual acuity both distance and near.Obtains or performs ocular motility, pupillary exams, confrontational fields and neutralize glasses.Performs imaging using diagnostic equipment: Fundus photography, external photography, and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT).Performs diagnostic testing using the following diagnostic equipment: Humphrey Visual Field, Pentacam Corneal Topography, IOL Master, Pachymetry, and Auto-refractor.Perform manual refractometry.Measure patient’s intraocular pressure using either the Goldman tonometer, Perkins tonometer or Tonopen.Administers eye drops to patients in accordance with provider instructions, utilizing proper eye drop techniques and sterility.Clean, stock and prepare exam rooms.Maintain, clean and sterilize ophthalmic instruments.Maintains and cleans all equipment being utilized and reports if not in working condition.Maintains patient confidentiality.Comply with all HIPPA requirements.Performs other duties assigned.Required QualificationsNoneRequired Licensure/Certification SkillsNonePreferred QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent.Preferred experience in an ambulatory medical setting but not required.Ability to work in a team environment.Friendly, courteous, and patient service-orientedCertified Ophthalmic Assistant within 12 months of hire preferred.EducationLICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS: Physical RequirementsM - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.For disease specific care programs refer to the program specific requirements of the department for further specifications on experience and educational expectations, including continuing education requirements.
