Our autonomous robots and multi-modal data collection systems are transforming how retailers manage inventory and make data-driven decisions.\nThe Role\nSimbe is hiring its first Controller to build out the accounting function as the company scales. This is a hands-on role from day one — you'll get up to speed quickly on the business and how accounting operates today, including our existing outside accounting relationships, and start finding quick wins and areas to help right away. From there, you'll build the systems, processes, and controls that carry Simbe through its next phase of growth — enterprise scale-up, recurring annual audits, and early international expansion.\nThis is a builder's role: you'll design and stand up processes rather than inherit a mature function. You will work closely with the finance team to shape how Simbe's accounting operations scale from here, rolling up your sleeves early and taking on increasing ownership as the function matures.\n\nResponsibilities\nOversee the Close — Take oversight of the monthly close, starting hands-on with today's process and evolving it toward a 5–7 day close as ownership and systems mature.\nOversee Reconciliations & Technical Accounting — Provide oversight of reconciliations and technical accounting, and serve as the primary point of contact for the external audit — PBC list, workpapers, and the auditor relationship.\nBuild proper controls — for a company of Simbe's size and maturity.\nPartner with FP&A — Work with the Finance Director and FP&A tooling (Planful) to support the forecasting build and keep it moving.\nOversee AR/Collections — Provide oversight of AR/collections performance, partnering with the finance data analyst to keep invoicing, cash application, and the collections cycle pacing with enterprise rollout volume.\nManage Outside Tax & Audit Relationships — Own the ongoing relationship with tax and audit service providers, including managing any transitions as the company scales.\nSupport Lender Reporting — Own reporting and covenant compliance on the company's existing debt facility.\nRequired Qualifications\n10+ years of progressive accounting experience, advancing through accounting leadership (Accounting Manager Senior Manager Director Controller/Assistant Controller).\nPrior experience operating as a Controller or Assistant Controller, ideally including having built or run the function at a smaller or earlier-stage company at some point in that track.\nPrior experience in hardware, SaaS/subscription and/or hardware-as-a-service\nTime at a company with a mature, at-scale accounting function — you know what \"great\" looks like from having seen it, not just built from first principles.\nComfort building process from scratch — this is a chance to build the function from the ground up, not inherit and maintain an existing one.\nAudit experience, ideally including audits at an early-stage or high-growth company.\nSystems fluency: QuickBooks Online (or comparable GL), an FP&A platform (Planful or similar), Bill.com, Avalara, and payroll/PEO systems.\nDemonstrated use of AI tooling in close, reconciliation, and/or reporting workflows — not just awareness, but hands-on application.\nStrong, direct communicator, comfortable presenting to the leadership team and, over time, the Board.\nVenture-backed or other high-growth company experience\nExposure to multi-entity or international accounting\nPreferred Qualifications\nCPA\nBig 4 or public accounting background\nThe salary offered is based on market location, and may vary further depending on individualized factors for job candidates, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including equity compensation, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.\nSimbe’s approach emphasizes total rewards - base pay, equity, incentives, and benefits - rather than viewing compensation as cash alone. We believe the full package, including ownership through equity and well-being support, is what drives engagement, retention, and alignment with our mission.\nAt Simbe, you will be at the forefront of retail innovation, working with cutting-edge AI and robotics technologies to transform retail operations. Our culture is dynamic, inclusive, and driven by a passion for improving the way retailers operate and serve their customers. Join us to be a part of a team that is not only reshaping the future of retail but also offering immense value to our clients worldwide.\nSimbe Values: R.E.T.A.I.L.\nResult Driven - We are customer-centric and results-driven. We strive to create immense value for our team, partners, customers, and investors.\nEmpathetic - We are sensitive and mindful. We support each other in challenging times, both professionally and personally.\nTransparent - We highly value open communication internally, and with our partners and customers. We are receptive to feedback.\nAgile - We are agile and always eager to learn. We quickly adapt to changes and customer needs.\nInnovative - We are bold and innovative, with an intense focus on product design and user experience.\nLeaders - We strive for excellence. We are accountable, the best at what we do, and leaders in our field.\nWe may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information.
