The Pipe Layer is responsible for preparing and installing underground pipelines for road construction. This position reports to the Pipe Foreman.\r\nDuties/Responsibilities\r\nInstall sanitary and storm water sewer structures and pipe systems.\r\nLay out pipe routes, following specifications or blueprints, and coordinating layouts with supervisor.\r\nCut pipes to required lengths.\r\nAssist in aligning pipes during pipeline construction.\r\nAlign and position pipes to prepare them for welding or sealing.\r\nCheck slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers.\r\nConnect pipe pieces and seal joints, using welding equipment, cement or glue.\r\nTap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices.\r\nCover pipes with earth or other materials.\r\nGrade and level trench bases, using tamping machines and hand tools.\r\nOther general labor and construction related duties as required.\r\nPromote and adhere to the company's safety program.\r\nQualifications\r\nHigh school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.\r\n3 to 5 years of experience in underground pipe laying.\r\n2 to 4 years of experience in road construction preferred.\r\nKnowledgeable of pipe laying techniques.\r\nHave a sense of urgency to meet deadlines.\r\nAttention to detail.\r\nAccomplish goals in a team environment.\r\nCompetencies\r\nCommunicating Effectively\r\nDelivering High Quality Work\r\nDependability\r\nFollowing Policies and Procedures\r\nWork Environment/Safety\r\nPhysical Demands\r\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands). The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs.
