Chief of Staff
Location: San Diego, CA Job Type: Full-time, 5 days a week on-site This role is for a stealth medical device company incubated by Pareto Holdings, an early-stage venture firm that builds and invests in new companies. We are building a next-generation wearable biosensor platform that measures biomarkers critical to managing clinical conditions. The company is venture-backed and operating in stealth while developing novel sensing technology at the intersection of biology, hardware, and software. This is a hands-on operating role at an early-stage company — not a venture capital or finance position. You will work directly with the CEO and leadership team to help build and scale the company from the ground up. Position Summary: We are seeking a Chief of Staff to serve as a high-leverage operator working directly with the CEO to drive clarity, execution, and scale across the company. This role sits at the center of the business — translating strategy into action, building internal systems, and ensuring the company operates effectively as it grows. This is not a purely coordination role. It is an execution-heavy position for someone who wants to operate like a founder, take ownership of critical initiatives, and help build a company from 0 -> 1. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Partner closely with the CEO and executive team to drive company-wide priorities and strategic initiatives Translate high-level strategy into clear action plans, timelines, and ownership across teams Identify operational bottlenecks and ensure consistent follow-through on key initiatives Own and manage internal business operations, including finance workflows, vendor management, and organizational planning Support budgeting, spend tracking, and financial reporting in collaboration with external accounting partners Prepare materials for internal and external stakeholders, including operating plans, investor updates, fundraising materials, and board communications Build and maintain key metrics dashboards and reporting systems to track company performance Lead and improve core operating cadences, including: Weekly leadership meetings, goal setting and progress tracking (OKRs or similar), and cross-functional project updates Implement and manage internal tools, systems, and workflows across: Documentation and knowledge sharing, onboarding and team processes, and compliance and operational infrastructure Work cross-functionally with engineering, lab, and business teams to ensure alignment and execution Support and lead special projects or other high-priority initiatives as needed by leadership Requirements: Bachelor’s degree required 2 - 4+ years of experience in investment banking, consulting, finance, or strategy & operations at early-stage startups Strong organizational and systems-thinking skills with high attention to detail Ability to operate comfortably in ambiguous, fast-paced environments and bring structure where needed High ownership mindset with a bias toward action and execution Strong communication skills, both written and verbal Ability to work cross-functionally with technical and non-technical teams Comfortable working directly with executive leadership Financial fluency and comfort working with spreadsheets, budgets, and performance metrics Working Conditions: 5 days in office, full-time in our lab Combination of office, collaborative team environments, and cross-functional working sessions Fast-paced, early-stage startup environment with evolving priorities Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, health savings account, flexible spending account, life and long-term disability insurance, 401(k) plan, holidays, and PTO.
