Solid Power is a dynamic, fast-paced, collaborative team environment. This position will be a part of the Technology Integration group, assisting in the transition of Solid Power's proprietary solid state electrolyte technology to mass production. The product development engineer will be responsible for interfacing with the R&D, Powder Production and Engineering teams to facilitate the scaling of both key process improvements and next-generation technologies.\nJob Duties:\nOptimize separator and electrode formulations, and slurry processing methods.\nScreen formulations on the benchtop and work with operations team to screen on the pilot scale.\nDrive new product platforms through robust slurry formulation design and foundational scientific principles.\nSource, characterize, and evaluate materials from various suppliers.\nPlan and execute DOE (Design of Experiments) independently, utilize statistical tools for results analysis, and determine the importance of multiple factors/parameters.\nResearch at the benchtop and contribute to our understanding through a hands-on laboratory role and the execution of experiments.\nContributes to technical writing of grants, patents, and reports.\nWork independently and efficiently to reach goals with target timelines.\nWork closely, collaboratively, and effectively with other departments and team members.\nEffectively communicate ideas, concepts, designs, and results to the team.\nProficient verbal and written communication skills as reflected in written reports and technical presentations.\nClearly disseminate procedures and work instructions to operators and technicians.\nSource equipment, materials and instruments and justify spending as needed to move research forward\nMaintain general lab safety and daily work cleanliness, perform all work with a \"safety mindset.\"\nQualifications/Requirements:\nB.S., or M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.\nBasic knowledge of the field's standards and specifications, including an applied understanding of wetting and dispersion science.\nApplication of basic chemistry techniques to optimize manufacturing processes, especially knowledge of solvent selection and material compatibility.\nExposure to chemical and physical characterization techniques, e.g., rheology, SEM, EDS, Raman, XRD, and particle size determination.\nSelf-motivated and able to work with little supervision.\nExperience handling hazardous materials in a laboratory or production environment.\nExperience in solid-state battery development is a plus, including benchtop coin and pouch cell assembly and conducting cell testing.\nExperience with small scale mixing and benchtop prototyping with a rotational mixer e.g. Flacktek or Thinky is a plus.\nPhysical Requirements:\nProlonged periods of sitting at a desk.\nRequired to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary including, but not limited to eye protection, hair net, gloves, face mask, coveralls, full-face respirator or PAPR\nSalary Range: $65,000 - $85,000/year\nBenefits: Solid Power offers a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical/dental/vision insurance, employer paid Life/AD&D/STD/LTD insurance, 401k with company match, 8 paid holidays + the week between Christmas and New Years off, Unlimited PTO, up to six (6) weeks paid FMLA leave, cell phone reimbursement and eligibility to participate in our bonus and equity plans.\nExport Control Requirements: This position could require access to technology, software and other information that is subject to governmental access control restrictions, due to export controls.
