Physical Education Teacher & Varsity Coach (Field Hockey / Girls Lacrosse)
Position SummaryThe School seeks a full-time Physical Education Teacher who will also serve as a Varsity Field Hockey Assistant Coach and Girls Varsity Lacrosse Assistant Coach. This position plays an integral role in advancing the School's mission by supporting the intellectual, physical, and character development of students. The successful candidate will be a collaborative educator and coach who values relationship-building, student well-being, leadership development, and a consistent, mission-aligned culture across academics and athletics.Physical Education TeacherPrimary Responsibilities:Design and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate, and standards-based physical education instructionFoster lifelong habits of fitness, wellness, teamwork, and personal responsibilityCreate and sustain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environmentDevelop lesson plans aligned with departmental curriculum and School-wide goalsAssess, document, and communicate student progress in alignment with School expectationsProvide effective classroom management and appropriate student supervisionCollaborate with colleagues across departments and divisions to support the whole childParticipate fully in faculty life, including meetings, professional development, and community eventsUphold and model the School's mission, values, and expectationsVarsity CoachCoaching Responsibilities (Field Hockey & Girls Lacrosse):Collaborate with the Head Coaches to plan and implement practices, competition preparation, and player development aligned with the School's mission and athletic philosophyProvide instruction in sport-specific skills, tactics, and strategies appropriate to the varsity levelSupport game planning, scouting, film review, and performance evaluationSupervise student-athletes during practices, contests, travel, meetings, and team activitiesPromote a positive, inclusive, and competitive environment emphasizing sportsmanship, leadership, accountability, and characterAssist with equipment management, uniforms, and program resourcesSupport offseason training, camps, strength and conditioning, and community engagement opportunitiesEnsure consistency in communication, expectations, and program culture within each sportMaintain timely, professional, and thoughtful communication with students, families, colleagues, and athletic leadershipPerform additional duties as assigned by the Director of AthleticsRequired Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Physical Education or a related fieldDemonstrated commitment to adolescent development and independent school educationAbility to work collaboratively within a mission-driven, student-centered communityPreferred:Coaching experience in Field Hockey and/or Girls Lacrosse at the high school or collegiate levelExperience coaching a specific position group or unitKnowledge of strength and conditioning principles and athlete wellnessCPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
