Engineer II - Design
Essential Job Functions: Perform highway/structure engineering design functions with minimal supervision and guidance by a Work Group Leader, including engineering computations, cost estimates, checking, report writing, etc.May act as a Work Group Leader on segments of projects.Participate in visits to project sites, project status meetings, and public meetings.Assist in developing the technical skills of coworkers.Provide design support for workshare with other offices.Demonstrate accountability.Perform other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of highway/structure engineering and design codes.Knowledge of company Design Procedures.Ability to perform moderately complex highway/structure engineering design tasks independently and more complex design task with supervision.Knowledge of written communication techniques and composition.Ability to use computer software and other online resources.Skilled in using word processing and spreadsheet applications, Bluebeam, and "MathCad".Skilled in utilizing engineering software to provide highway/traffic design solutions.Ability to supervise other members of the highway project team.Ability to communicate with coworkers, clients, and the public in a courteous and professional manner.Ability to work in a team-oriented setting, which includes supervision.Knowledge of Bentley MicroStation design software.Structure Specific: Steel girder design and load rating, concrete superstructure design, connection design, bearing design, abutment design, retaining wall design, and pier/foundation design and analysis.Highway Specific: Geometry, right-of-way, traffic, and water resource.Software: InRoads/OpenRoads, HCS/Synchro/Vissim, HEC-RAS, HY-8, PondPack.Education and Experience Required: BS degree in civil engineering.EIT certificate.Minimum two (2) years of progressively responsible design experience.Attain training prerequisites according to company schedules.Relationship to Others: Reports to Department Manager.Works with other Engineers, Designers, and Draftspersons.Receives assignments from Department Manager, Project Managers, and Engineers.Receives guidance from Work Group Leaders and Project Engineers.Provides guidance to Engineer I and Draftspersons.
