In this role, you'll be putting your ME courses into practice through tasks like design of sheet metal, machined and injection molded parts, prototyping your ideas in our lab, and testing them to rigorous quality standards.\nWe're seeking motivated students from local universities who are interested in building real-world experience throughout the year. Candidates who can work part-time during the academic year and full-time during the summer are encouraged to apply.\nA typical day as a Mechanical Engineer Intern might include:\nCreate and update SolidWorks part models and engineering drawings.\nPerform mechanical analysis: Thermal, Structural, Tolerance.\nComplete testing of designs: Thermal, Vibration, Force/Strain.\nCollaborate with Electrical, Compliance, and Manufacturing engineers to develop and validate designs.\nSupport products across multiple stages of development from early NPI to sustaining engineering.\nFollow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.\nOther duties as assigned.\nThis job might be for you if:\nCurrently in pursuit of a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, with one to two years of engineering coursework completed.\nOne year of SolidWorks experience (or equivalent CAD software).\nAbility to conduct defined testing procedures.\nStrong problem-solving skills.\nStrong writing, documentation, and verbal communication skills.\nAbility to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.\nAbility to work cooperatively in a team environment.\nWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office applications or equivalent software.\nBackground check results satisfactory to SEL.\nNegative drug test result(s).\n\nIt is a plus if you have:\nLab experience: building prototypes, design of experiments, hands on troubleshooting.\nPython or MATLAB scripting for data analysis.\nExposure to simulation analysis.\nPhysical Requirements\nNone\nAbout Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories\nSEL designs, manufactures, and supports products and systems that protect, monitor, control, and automate electric power systems.
