For a federal credit union with approximately $500 million in assets, this role is responsible for executing a comprehensive, risk-based internal audit program that covers financial, operational, compliance, IT, and vendor-related risks, in accordance with NCUA regulations and professional auditing standards.\n\nFUNCTION\n\nDevelop and maintain a risk-based annual audit plan aligned with the Credit Union’s risk profile and approved by the Supervisory Committee\n\nPerform enterprise-wide risk assessments at least annually\n\nLead or support investigations into suspected fraud, misconduct, or policy violations\n\nAudit Execution\n\nConduct independent audits in the following areas, among other areas, as determined periodically:\n\nLending (consumer, real estate, commercial, indirect, participation)\n\nDeposit operations, cash controls, and teller functions\n\nACH, wires, cards, and electronic payments\n\nBSA/AML and OFAC programs\n\nInformation technology, cybersecurity, and data governance\n\nVendor management and third-party relationships\n\nFinancial reporting, ALM, and key management reports\n\nEvaluate internal controls using recognized frameworks (e.g., COSO)\n\nAssess compliance with NCUA regulations, federal consumer protection laws, and internal policies\n\nReporting & Communication\n\nPrepare formal audit reports, including scope, methodology, risk ratings, root cause analysis, and management recommendations\n\nPresent audit results, trends, and systemic risks to the Supervisory Committee\n\nProvide periodic status updates on audit plan progress and issue remediation\n\nIssue Management & Follow-Up\n\nTrack audit findings, corrective action plans, and validate implementation and effective remediation\n\nCommunicate unresolved or high-risk issues to the Supervisory Committee\n\nRegulatory & External Coordination\n\nServe as a key point of contact for NCUA examiners, external auditors, and consultants\n\nCoordinate internal audit activities with external audit, compliance, and risk functions to avoid duplication while maintaining independence\n\nSupport preparation for NCUA examinations and supervisory reviews\n\nAuthority & Independence\n\nMaintains full independence from operational management\n\nReports functionally to the Supervisory Committee\n\nPerform other compliance, investigation, and audit tasks, as identified by the Supervisory committee from time to time\n\nQUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED\nEducation & Experience\n\nBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field\n\n5–7 years of internal audit, compliance, or risk management experience within a financial institution\n\nCredit Union audit experience strongly preferred\n\nFDIC work experience preferred\n\nProfessional Certifications (Preferred / Strongly Encouraged)\n\nCIA, CPA, or CISA\n\nCAMS or other BSA/AML certification a plus\n\nDeep understanding of mid-size credit union operations\n\nStrong working knowledge of NCUA regulations and examination processes\n\nUnderstanding of the use of Computer Assisted Audit Techniques (CAAT)\n\nExcellent analytical, documentation, and report-writing skills\n\nAbility to communicate effectively with senior management and Board-level committees\n\nHigh degree of integrity, discretion, and professional skepticism\n\nWorking Conditions\n\nPrimarily office-based with periodic travel to branches\n\nFlexible scheduling may be required during examinations or audit cycles\n\nCOMPENSATION\nNizari PFCU is committed to investing in the growth, development, and well-being of its employees.
