The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in Java development, SQL databases, Linux environments, and large-scale application support. This role involves leading development activities, troubleshooting complex application issues, mentoring team members, and collaborating with stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions.Key responsibilities include:Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise Java applications.Lead coding, debugging, testing, and implementation activities for new and existing applications.Analyze business and technical requirements to develop effective software solutions.Create and maintain flowcharts, technical documentation, and user manuals.Develop, review, and optimize SQL queries, database objects, packages, and triggers.Troubleshoot application issues by analyzing logs, system messages, memory utilization, thread connectivity, and performance metrics.Recommend and implement application and system performance improvements.Develop and maintain backup and recovery processes to ensure business continuity.Coordinate development activities, assign work, and track project progress.Collaborate with technical teams and business stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle.Support application modernization efforts, including migration from legacy mainframe systems to Java/SQL platforms.Follow Agile development practices and utilize Atlassian tools for project management.Perform production support and resolve complex application issues.Prepare technical documentation, implementation plans, and verification procedures.Perform other duties as assigned.Required skills and experience include:15+ years of hands-on Java development experience.10+ years of SQL database development and administration experience.8+ years supporting and developing large-scale enterprise applications in a collaborative team environment.5+ years working in Linux environments.Strong knowledge of application troubleshooting, performance tuning, and debugging.Experience developing technical documentation and software implementation plans.Ability to lead development teams and coordinate project activities.Preferred skills include:8+ years using Atlassian tools, particularly JIRA.8+ years working in Agile/Scrum development environments.Experience supporting Texas State Government applications or the Texas Department of Public Safety.Experience migrating legacy mainframe applications to modern Java/SQL architectures.Work location:Hybrid – Austin, TX (5805 N.
