This role guides school-based staff in ensuring instruction aligns with the academic standards, interprets curriculum changes, and informs teachers, principals, and district personnel of their implications. He/she evaluates the effectiveness of instructional methods and programs and helps develop implementation and improvement strategies.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in an applicable field for applicable level(s) KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Masterful knowledge of literacy or mathematics curriculum and best practices.Highly developed presentation skills.Knowledge of effective staff development models that lead to increased student achievement.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Considerable human relations and human development skills.Demonstrated leadership ability.Good technical skills with technology and presentation tools.Ability to collect and analyze statistical data and maintain complete and accurate records and statistics and to develop meaningful reports from that information.Ability to plan and evaluate strategies for improving instruction.Ability to exercise considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contact with the public.Knowledge of curriculum, instruction and assessment processes.Ability to conduct demonstration lessons and non-evaluative classroom observations, and provide support to teachers using the coaching cycle.Design effective lessons and interventions in collaboration with classroom teachers to support student needs.Work independently with appropriate direction.Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action as they pertain to working with adults in the coaching process and professional development.Use tact, patience and courtesy when dealing with people. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in an applicable field for applicable level(s)If transferring from a teaching position from another school system in or out of state, must have received routine meets standards or above standard evaluations with no action plans for improvementAny equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS Must hold a valid Teacher's License issued by the state of NC in applicable field and for level assignedMust possess a valid driver's license issued by the NC Department of Motor Vehicles PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:National Board CertificationDemonstrated record of achieving Highly Qualified status on evaluationsSpanish Speaking ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESAssists teachers with improving techniques for instruction and improving overall student achievementWorks with teachers to implement a coherent curriculum aligned with state and national standardsPromotes the use of a consistent instructional framework and research-based strategies.Helps build assessment systems that are aligned with curriculum and instruction priorities.Leads professional development for teachers in literacy, math, and other content areas as needed.Helps staff secure, analyze, and interpret data for promoting instructional improvement. Supports principals and teachers in using data at the school level.Observes teachers; makes regular classroom visits to support instructional improvement and provides feedback to teachers and staff regarding implementation issues.Coordinates with other departments, offices, and organizations to best serve student needs.Provides customized professional development to meet unique student needs and support differentiated instruction.Participates in regular professional development to improve knowledge and skills.Know the curriculum, district policies, rules, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to their position, and follow them conscientiously.Plans for professional growth opportunities for teachers, including research-based strategies and best practices to meet student needs.Models the use of technology as an enhancement to student and staff learning.Attends and/or facilitates appropriate professional learning community meetings and assists with the development of these teams as needed.Attends Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and assists teams of teachers in collecting and analyzing student performance data.Keeps parents, administrators, and community members informed about district initiatives to address educational issues.Schedules and conducts meetings for school contacts as assigned. Participates in regularly scheduled departmental meetings as required.Performs other assigned duties.WORKING CONDITIONSPHYSICAL DEMANDSWork is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force. Substantial amount of time spent standing and/or walking.WORK ENVIRONMENTEmployees in this position are required to work in indoor and outdoor environments, and come into direct contact with ABSS staff, students and the public.
