It is the employer’s discretion to add or change the duties or requirements of this position at any time.\n\nThe incumbent coordinates and provides inmate services in the Community Corrections environment.\nSupervises the development and delivery of inmate services at the NRADC to include substance abuse intervention, life skills training, job services assistance, parenting, and educational services.\nDirects and coordinates the development of policies and procedures related to the recruitment and utilization of volunteer services within NRADC.\nReviews criminal and social histories of inmates and recommends/coordinates special counseling and/or program participation.\nMonitors inmate program progress and serves as a consultant to staff providing inmate training, counseling, and case management.\nConducts individual and group counseling and training to include substance abuse intervention, anger management, education, and other life skills training.\nMaintains inmate management records and files.\nProvides Correctional Officer training and consultation.\nPerforms other duties as may be directed.\nTypical Qualifications\nRequirements:\nEDUCATION:\nCombination of education and experience that would enable candidate to perform required duties; and,\nA bachelor’s degree in social work, behavioral science, or counseling in a related field is preferred.\nEXPERIENCE:\nFive (5) years substance abuse and/or mental health or rehabilitation counseling is required; and,\nTwo (2) years supervisory experience in correctional, forensic, or mental health treatment is also desired.\nOTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:\nMust be able to work irregular hours;\nAbility to analyze diverse social histories and to recommend remedial education, intervention, and training programs to correct/modify problem behavior;\nKnowledge of substance abuse intervention and counseling methodology and techniques;\nAbility to conduct individual and/or group counseling and training sessions;\nKnowledge of instructional procedures and techniques;\nThorough knowledge of community-based resources available to assist in implementation of inmate programs;\nKnowledge to train and serve as a consultant to sworn officers and civilian staff with inmate case management responsibilities; and,\nThe ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and other community entities is essential.\nCERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND/OR REGISTRATIONS:\nA valid state Driver’s License is required;\nMust maintain a telephone for emergency contact; and,\nMust be Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC).\nSupplemental Information\nPHYSICAL DEMANDS: This is light to medium work that requires standing and walking for short periods of time, picking up and moving boxes as needed (10lbs to 25lbs), pushing, pulling, grasping, bending, stooping, reaching, and crouching as needed. Effective vocal communication, hearing and vision is required.\n\nENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Majority of the work is indoors. Regularly exposed to those convicted of or charged with felons and misdemeanants, all susceptible to violent and/or unpredictable behavior.
