Your job is more than a jobThe LPN Clinic provides appropriate medical care and counseling to the patient. Assists the medical provider in the delivery of care under stable and predictable conditions within the framework of a patient care assignment.Clinical SkillsParticipates in patient care under supervision and in collaboration with members of the healthcare teamMeasures and records vital signs according to departmental policy and patient ageIdentifies abnormal vital signs based on age and developmental level and reports findings to the appropriate medical providerSupports clinic flow, including:Assisting with patient arrival to the clinicAssisting in and performing patient proceduresScheduling new and follow-up appointmentsFacilitating a smooth patient exit from the clinicPrepares patients for examinations, treatments, and proceduresObserves patients for signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect and reports concerns in accordance with policyRecognizes emergencies and responds appropriately per organizational policy and procedurePerforms non-complex clinical procedures according to clinic policy and documented competency (e.g., simple dressing changes)Provides for patient comfort with consideration of age-specific and special needsPrepares, tests, cleans, and disinfects clinic equipment prior to and after patient use according to hospital policyAdministers prescribed medications and/or vaccinations via ordered routes in accordance with department policyCollects, prepares, secures, and transports specimens for point-of-care testing or laboratory analysisPerforms point-of-care testing in compliance with Laboratory Point of Care Testing Manual guidelinesMaintains medication inventory and ensures:Proper storage per policySafe use of multi-dose vials and containersAppropriate disposal of expired medicationsAccurate refrigerator and freezer temperature monitoring logs for medications and vaccinesDocumentationDocuments clinical tasks, procedures, and testing accurately in the patient medical record per departmental guidelinesCompletes required paperwork, including documentation for waived testing quality control proceduresMaintains patient privacy by ensuring computer screens and electronic records are secure when clinical staff are not presentNavigates the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) to:Obtain laboratory and radiology resultsAccess medical recordsUpdate patient demographic informationSchedule follow-up appointmentsPrepares safety reports when warranted or as directed by the clinic manager or designeeProfessionalism and SupportCommunicates with and keeps the clinic manager informed of clinic activities, requirements, and identified problemsMaintains strict patient confidentiality at all timesSafety and Infection Control StandardsAssists with compliance related to safety, environmental, infection control, quality improvement, and regulatory standardsImplements standard and transmission-based precautions according to policyEnsures patient safety throughout clinic visitsMaintains a clean and safe clinic work environmentReports safety hazards or policy violations in the patient care or clinic environment to the clinic manager or designeeParticipates in quality improvement initiatives, including:Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) projectsEnvironment of Care (EOC) roundsClerical SupportParticipates in clinic preparation by gathering clinical documentation for review by the medical provider or licensed practitionerUses office and clinical technology, including computers, printers, scanners, and fax machinesScans outside correspondence into the appropriate section of the electronic medical recordObtains medical records from outside facilities as requested by the medical providerAnswers incoming telephone calls and routes them promptly to the appropriate individualLICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONSBLS Healthcare Provider Certification from the American Heart Association.
