Part-Time Referral Specialist

Our practice is growing and expanding! We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Referral Specialist to join our mental health office team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing patient referrals, ensuring seamless communication between referral source, and maintaining the highest level of patient care and confidentiality. This role requires a strong understanding of medical terminology, medical coding, and insurance verification processes. **Responsibilities:**
- Coordinate patient referrals from primary care providers to specialists and other referral sources, ensuring timely and efficient communication.
- Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain necessary authorizations for referrals.
- Utilize ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding systems to accurately document patient diagnoses and procedures.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Conduct insurance verification and billing inquiries to facilitate patient care.
- Collaborate with medical office staff to ensure all patient information is accurately documented and communicated to healthcare providers.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of medical terminology, medical coding, and insurance verification processes.
- Provide exceptional patient service, addressing patient concerns and providing clear instructions on the referral process.
**Experience:**
- Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare setting, preferably as a referral coordinator or medical records clerk.
- Proficiency with medical coding systems, including ICD-9 and ICD-10.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and the importance of maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Strong administrative skills, including data entry, insurance verification, and billing inquiries.
- Experience working in an office environment with multiple tasks and deadlines.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in healthcare administration or a related field preferred.
**Skills:**
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and medical coding systems.
- Proficiency in ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding systems.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and their application in medical offices.
- Experience with medical records and the ability to maintain accurate and up-to-date records.

Hybrid position. Must live in or near Erwin as may have to do some on site work throughout the week or month. So must be able to go to the office during that timeframe.
