Lead Heavy Mobile Equipment Diesel Mechanic

Job Description We are looking for a Lead Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic in New Orleans. Responsible for leading the maintenance team while actively performing maintenance and repairs on heavy mobile equipment.Compensation : $32.00 to $37.00 per hour, depending on experienceJob Duties:Technical and Hands-On Duties (80%)Perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on heavy mobile equipment, including forklifts, cranes, and loadersLead by example in conducting preventive and corrective maintenance tasksInterpret and utilize electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic schematics for troubleshootingPrioritize maintenance needs based on operational schedules and equipment availabilityPerform inspections to ensure compliance with HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental) standards. Determine in-house repair capabilities vs. the need for third-party vendor supportAdministrative and Leadership Duties (20%)Schedule and assign daily work tasks using CMMS (Maximo)Track and follow up on purchase orders, inventory, and parts managementProvide daily status updates to Asset Management and Operations teamsEnsure documentation of all maintenance work orders and compliance reportingMentor, coach, and support the development of maintenance team membersManage communication between operations and maintenance for scheduling needsMonitor and track KPIs such as equipment availability (target 80-85%), PM compliance, and downtime reductionMaintain safety, environmental, and ISO compliance in all activitiesQualification and Education Requirements:High school diploma or equivalent required.Vocational or technical training in heavy equipment mechanics preferred5+ years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance required; leadership experience preferredStrong technical proficiency in diesel engines, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systemsProficient in CMMS systems, preferably MaximoOSHA 30 certification preferred. Welding and forklift certifications are a plusValid driver's license with a clean driving recordAbility to work flexible hours, including weekends and on-call emergenciesRequired Skills:Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skillsAbility to read and interpret complex schematics and manualsProficiency with diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and computer softwareStrong time management, organizational, and communication skillsLeadership skills to guide, mentor, and motivate a teamPreferred Skills:· Experience in inventory management and parts sourcing· Familiarity with ISO compliance standards· Vendor management experienceCore Competencies:Technical ExpertiseDemonstrates advanced knowledge in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
